Beltane in Vermont

Postby Susanne » 02 May 2011, 15:56

Yesterday I went to our state capitol to celebrate Beltane with some friends. It was a great day with a wonderful opening ceremony in the park calling in the quarters and honoring the Mother & all Life on Earth.
The best part is that after the ceremony the local police close off Main street for a parade which ends at the State House. There is another ceremony on the steps with Morris dancers & a maypole on the lawn.
Gotta love living in Vermont :D

Yes, it was a lot of fun & very moving too. Part of the opening ceremony was a prayer for the Earth by some of the local Abenaki tribe members.
It was a bit surreal also, with the big puppet of the Mother on the steps in front of the flags & canon by the door. It was a bit of a strange sight really but it does give me hope.
