Acceptance of Druidry by the British Forces

With the introduction of a new and much more open view of all religious and cultural differences Paganism and in particular Druidry has been accepted in to the British Armed Forces in fact to the point that as a serving member of the Army I have just been issued my new ID disks in preparation for my next tour.

Quite a big change from my point of view.

Our turn? US military personnel have been able to put "Druid" or "Pagan" or whatever they wish on their dog tags for many years now. It's nice to see that the UK caught up.

Sweet! When I signed up with the Navy 12 years ago they told me I had to put 'other'.

Maybe it was the peeps who processed my paperwork. They also didn't like how I signed my name *yeesh*

I don't have a pic of mine, but mine say Druid as well. Now to get the DoD to recognize the Awen as a symbol for tombstones...They've got the Pentacle, but that's it for Pagans, unless you want to go with the Unitarian symbol.

More generally, the discussions on "tradition" are interesting. The what's, why's and wherefor's of how tradition comes about are interesting. Also the importance of tradition "If you don't know where you come from, how can you know where you are going to"?

Also the point (of especial relevance to OBOD) that tradition is not static. Memorable events add layers to tradition.
