Welcome to our new Classical Music Forum!

Thank you to Kernos for suggesting that we create this subforum, where we can discuss "classical" music.  I'll be posting in another thread to explain why I don't particularly like that name but I guess we could loosely define it as Western "artistic" and religious music from around 1100AD to the present.  Perhaps we can work on a better one together.

I'm feeling quite enthusiastic, so please post, even if you don't feel knowledgeable about the subject, but are interested.

I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to classical music.  But I would have to say that Pachelbel's Canon is my favorite.  There have been so many variations of it, that I never get tired of listening to it.

One of the great things about this wonderful melody is its simplicity and that it can be played on almost any instrument and is wonderful for improvising.

My favorite music is from the Baroque period, espcially Vivaldi and Bach, I also like earlier periods - some Medieveal and Renaissace music - Gregorian Chant, Hildegarde.

I like some 'modern classical' (what else would I call it???_ such as Eric Satie and some Philip Glass.

I enjoy some opera. Pucchini is my favorite of all - any of his operas!

Other choices are 'new age' music for meditation such as Stephen Halpern and others.

I prefer small ensembles to large orchestras. I really enjoy chamber music and often to go those concerts. In Bflo, we have a Chamber Music series.
