The Heron, the Bandits, the Trees and me (Poetry)

Postby Niht-Wyrd » 14 Sep 2004, 12:43

The Heron, the Bandits, the Trees and me

I walked along the russet path,
a carpet of gold and amber leaves,
I breathed the crisp and icy air,
and gazed up to the barren trees.

And through the leafless branches saw,
a crystal blue and cloudless sky,
and there amidst a merry dance,
two magpies and a heron fly.

The black and white did dart and skit,
around the sauntered heron’s flap,
and in and out, and through and back,
they wove their teasing, mocking trap.

But slow he glided through the air,
to pierce the wind with gracious ease,
and paid the bandits little mind,
his bounty that they wished to seize.

Relentless though, the would-be thieves,
persisted still and carried on,
but one sharp snap of heron beak,
concluded all, the prize was gone.

One for sorrow, two for joy,
and happily he sailed away,
to leave the pair to rue their loss,
and try again another day.

I walked along the russet path,
a carpet of gold and amber leaves,
I breathed the crisp and icy air,
and smiled up to the trees.

Many thanks to you all, it's lovely to read the comments. I actually wrote this last Samhain, but did not enter, as the circle turns once more, it came back to me, so here it be!

And of course Moon Cloud, it would be an honour!

Peace,

Craig.

I echo what Loosh said. It's so easy to visualize your words and put ourselves on the russet path beside you. Well done, Craig!

ahhh - Craig! Wonder-filled!
