This is the first time I've ever combined two woods to make a wand.

I can't even carve stick-people without carving my thumb, too!
You ARE very talented.

I've found Holly to be softspoken, but passionate and kind. Purpleheart is passionate and kind as well, but exotic hardwoods tend to be quite a bit louder, as far as I've experienced them.

I truly think you need to remove the apprentice part. This is just astounding work, sir. 4 thumbs up....uh, paws up? :panther:

Just a comment on this kind remark, Kat Lady, because since Azrienoch is my apprentice, you can't blame him for calling himself that. I also admire his work very much and he has shown great talent and awen from the beginning. He has not been my apprentice even a full year. Don't consider the title "apprentice" to be a commentary on one's skill -- it merely describes the relationship when one is studying with a "master." And "master" in the case of wandmakers without a Guild to oversee us and regulate those titles, simply means "one who has acquired an apprentice."

May I say that this wand is an excellent first departure in combining two pieces of wood and also in openwork -- a technique that I have been pondering myself but have not yet tried.

Blessings,

Alferian

I am very submissive to Alferian by choice. He has never given me a reason not to trust him. I enjoy being the underdog, and I know that many of you envy that I'm able to be that (sticks out tounge, "He's MINE!").
I only started carving wands at all from seeing Alf's on the internet. He officially took me on as an Apprentice on January 9th of this year (my one year anniversary as a pagan was last Saturday). Can't wait for my year to be up though, it's simply going to be a milemarker for me.

Fine work Az, puts me in mind of Saruman's head on a pole - which is what I imagined happened to him after Wormtongue slit his throat! I've not managed to carve anything remotely recognizable yet so I won't be challenging you to a whittlin-duel for a long time yet!

Excellent Azrienoch! I love the contrast between the wonderfully textured handle and the silky smooth shaft. Well done.

i Love the face on this one one as well as the use of two different kinds of wood.

So what is the limit to how many different kinds of wood can be used?

i would love one with three, my Spirit number. :-D :peace: :brnbear:

It's beautiful! I see a lot of kindness and wisdom in the face...
Pay attention to the path, and learn the hard way.  The easy way is fun and entertaining, but you take away very little.
