All your paintings are just beautiful, Jeb, but this one is my favorite. Excellent work!

Greetings Jeb!

This work is really quite striking... it looks kind of like a photograph, with the application of solarisation with an unusual colour palette. Is that how you did it, or was it actually different?

Thanks for the great comments everyone. Gandalf, you're not too far off, actually. It's made up of several layers: a couple layers of photographs and a few layers of adjustments, filters, and added material.

Any of you Father Oakies out there might be interested to know that one of the photos used in this picture is of the tree with the mistletoe I found growing on the shinto shrine grounds. You can't really make it out in this work but it's there.

I wish I could say that I used paints to make it, but alas, I'm terrible with paints and they're too messy. All my art is digital.

This is captivating! It reminds me of a stained glass window in its effect, but more alive! Beautiful!
Pay attention to the path, and learn the hard way.  The easy way is fun and entertaining, but you take away very little.

Jeb, I am ignorant about this stuff so please excuse that!

It's digital, so made on the pc, but then, how can it be made more 'real'? More 'out there'? Just by printing it? I really, really love your work, and am wondering how I could get some

Thanks lupiana and oaken.

I'm so glad to hear you like it that much, oaken. Wow.

I tried printing a couple of these out on paper a while back but found that they lost a lot of vibrancy without the backlight of the computer screen. I was going to try a few different types of photo paper to see if I could get a brighter image but lupiana, you just gave me a great idea! I think I'll try printing it on transperancy film (if I can get it for inkjet) and then framing/mounting it for a window hanging. Hmm...

All these images are the original size which suits my desktop printer. But to get anything bigger would take professional printing... which I might try just as an experiment, though I don't know how well they'd "blow up".

I'll definitely let you know, oaken, if I ever manage to get a decent "hard copy".

Thanks again to everyone for the kind words.

Ooh, window hangings, yes, yummy!

I just tried to print one and see what you mean about the vibrancy, it does lose a lot. Which is a shame, but if you don't mind I'd still like to decorate my journal with any prints I make. By the way, the dreamcatcher has gone from here, but I'd love to put that onto my journal too, so bring it on back will you? I'll still be interested in the hard copy but just for now, if you don't mind? Am I breaking any law here? Don't mind me - if like something I really like it :D

Greetings Jeb!

Do you mind telling us what software you used to create your art? I doubt that I would be able to purchase a professional piece of software - too expensive! - but I might be interested in tracking down some freeware that could do something similar.

I could tell that there was a little bit of image editing applied in there...

Jeb
I love this one! Dark without being scarey! I have worked with Photoshop a little bit so I can appreciate what you are doing. The temptation is to overwork something but you seem to get it right!

Greetings all!

I used to do art too. Rather than simplicity, I preferred to add layer upon layer of detail. That approach is exacting and demands much work and patience, and leaves you mentally exhausted; the reward though is a work that contains rich levels of detail that sometimes only become apparent upon longer and repeated viewing.

Jeb's work is far more simple than that - but you don't always have to be complicated; Jeb has found the right level for the subject, creating a simple yet striking work.

oaken,

No worries at all. Feel free to print anything you like. I'm honoured you'd want to. (But if some famous, rich art collector passes near it and takes a liking, do pass on my name, eh? )

Gandalf,

Photoshop7. One of my most favourite-est hunks of software ever created. It's my belief that a person with the right training can do ANYTHING with Photoshop. I, personally, have NO training and learned what little I know through the WDTD-C method (otherwise known as the "What Does This Do - Click" method  ).

Loosh,

Overwork indeed! You should see some of the other versions of this! Phew. I think the Ragnarok one, however, is quite overworked... but I left it that way on purpose (I was going for clutter = chaos on that one).

Thanks everyone again for the wonderful comments.

Gandalf - Moon Rising on Ragnarok is entered in the Eisteddfod. Would love to hear your thoughts on it.

oaken - Dreamcatcher is back up... Silly free website finally caught me hotlinking. Actually, I think it was a new rule, since they never mentioned it when I signed up. Oh, well. I switched over to Image Shack. Nice little hosting system.

Kaya-Nita - Healing you say? Excellent. I've heard that indigo is a healing colour (my old martial arts uniform was indigo for this reason - well, according to the teacher).

Jeb - that is beautiful. Brings to mind butterflies. And the holly is visible - I thought I was seeing things! Great work.
