Burning River (poetry)

[Caritas]

Warm velveteen lips
Softest caress as kisses
Fire slowly stoked.

Behind lips, deep arousal.
Soul to soul, all truths then shared.

Skin like rose petals
Stirring heat, flesh slides on flesh -
Intoxication.

Holding flames within strong arms
Conquered by passion, submerged.

Life's blood pounds inside
Rhythms sync, and swell, and ebb
Desire's fierce pulsing.

Consciousness drowns in delight
Halves melded eternally.

My lips to your lips
A breath of love, Life's power -
Conjunction of two.

Be my onward path, beloved -
Let my hopes fly on your wings.

This was an experiment with a Japanese form, the tanka. And written in the throes of passion!

well, we can only hope it was written FROM the throes of passion, and not IN it. smile. it might have proven otherwise distracting. however it was written, it is certainly a lovely, and sensual piece. thank you.

I've never heard of the tanka, Caritas but will go and look it up now. That was lovely.

The Tanka is the "full" Japanese form, of which Haiku is the first half.
Traditionally, one poet would write the "opening" haiku (5-7-5 syllables), and another poet would write the "closing" half (7-7 syllables).

Actually, the English "syllable counting" is a poor parallel to the true Japanese form, but it has become an accepted form in its own right.

[Underground River]

I liked this one...the way it seems to have all the elements in it...the passion fire, the drowning in water feeling, the earthly physical flesh kind of thing and the breathe part is the air...very nice and this is coming from somebody who isn't into romance!
