Heather (aka Ur, Fraoch)

The gentle Highland Heather
Spreads her brat of purple glory
She withstands the Scottish weather
And tells her ancient story.

Sprigs of white heather brings us good luck,
Gather pink for a lover’s tryst,
Royal purple lings leave us awestruck,
Heather borders the road to paradise.

Called Fraoch by Scottish warriors keen,
Who plucked the plant from the brae,
And brewed by a good Scots colleen,
Heather ale is still drunk to this day!

Susa as a former gardener (we're now in an apartment) this touched a special cord - I love a plant that not only defies, but blooms in winter! Thanks for sharing this, and bringing back the memory!
Pay attention to the path, and learn the hard way.  The easy way is fun and entertaining, but you take away very little.

Thank you! I've always loved Heather. It's also the plant badge of Clan Donald, whose slogan is: Fraoch Eilean (Gaelic: The Heathery Isle)!
