Circle of the Year - Poetry (haiku)

Circle of the Year - Poetry (haiku)

Postby CelticDao » 01 Oct 2004, 04:12

the northwest wind blows
the old year dies at Samhain
as November starts

thinning of the veil
the new year is also born
first spoke of the wheel

~

cold Winter Solstice
Alban Arthan has arrived
wind blows from the north

great bear of the north
we seek refuge in your den
sleep within the earth

~

northeast now the wind
winter's grip yields at Imbolc
January's past

lowland winter thaws
the trees awaken anew
sun warming our hearts

~

sunrise in the east
Alban Eilir welcomes us
Vernal Equinox

Soaring eastern hawk
you dance on warming breezes
winter yields to spring

~

fruitful southeast wind
we dance 'round Beltane bonfires
thin, the veil again

circle 'round Maypoles
sharing fruits of springtime love
seeds all planted now

~

Summer Solstice noon
in the south, the blazing fire
Alban Hefin's here

leaping southern stag
fields are bursting with your life
crops are promising

~

cooling southwest wind
Lughnasadh, first harvest time
August just begun

bake the sacred loaves
share the feast of cakes and ale
now the work begins

~

Autumn Equinox
Alban Elfed we name thee
harvest now complete

salmon of the west
the river carries you home
harvest of wisdom
Namasté Y'all.

Hey, CelticDao, that's awesome! :applause:
While I was reading I came across the word loaves...thought of groves...always trying to think of words to rhyme with grove...thanks for inspiring me to think of another one...

Girl, do you ever sleep?

Oh, I'm late for bed myself! Just couldn't wait until tomorrow to put this up!

And I realized that I have a rabbit in my window-well, so I have to do a rabbit rescue, before I can go to bed!

:sigh:

Rabbit rescue complete - the silly little things just seem to leap into the basement window wells (gee, could it be because they're being chased by Ashes, the Warrior dog?) Grab the step-ladder, and a towel, lower the ladder into the window-well, climb down, drop the towel over them, then scoop them up, and set them free. This happens about three or four times per year.

Sleep? Course I do. Sometimes not very well, but I do try to sleep at least once per night.

Ah, Celtic Dao, long have I tried to honor the seasons as you just have. The purity of thought shines through in the form.

I felt the seasons run by... so beautifully captured! Well done!
Pay attention to the path, and learn the hard way.  The easy way is fun and entertaining, but you take away very little.

I have never been a haiku fan until reading yours. As Mooncloud said, you captured the seasons as I cannot.

Excellent man! I love your haiku. You once said something about haiku being more than just syllable counting. You've truly proven that here. Great stuff!
