Mona

Thumping thumping rising beat
steel and leather marching feet.

invaders come from shores afar
conquering killing sea and star,

the like of which we never saw
god and goddess we implore,

Machine that is the roman might
crushing deer skin shield so slight,

fearsome faces come for slaughter
slashing hacking show no quarter,

fields of beauty, blood stained red
our priests, our druids lying dead,

women, children cruelly slain
our god our future lies in vain,

woad, blood, skin, become one
relentless slaughter battle won.

That one stuck me in the heart, Sanas.
It's like I was there, watching, helpless.

I agree with MC.
Very good, Sanas! Very sad and I can almost hear the druids and the Romans screaming at each other. Is it true that the Romans were actually quite afraid of the druids and almost ran away? This is just what I read in fiction books and don't know what really happened...anyway, it's a great poem!

And very timely as well....

well done, blessings, Caritas
It is precisely because our present life is so inseparably linked with desire that we must make use of desire’s tremendous energy if we wish to transform our life into something transcendental.  -Lama Thubten Yeshe

I hear the drums, I hear the crack of Marching feet, I see the lines drawn face to face, the rattle of sword on sheild, the tension is cut by the blast of the battle horn, and the Melee begins....

Hawky
She's the goddess of love
The goddess in green
The goddess of all
That I've ever seen
The goddess of hope
The goddess in brown
The goddess of all
That you've burned to the ground

Fantastic! It puts you right there in the thick of things. A massacre whose echoes are still felt today!
