Samhain's Need Fire (poetry)

Samhain's Need Fire (poetry)

Postby Ronwen » 20 Oct 2004, 16:35

Is there anything better than a big shared community fire on Samhain eve? - I can't wait!

Samhains Need fire

Samhain's need fire, burning bright,
Guide our loved ones close tonight.
Carry our prayers on your sacred smoke,
Consume our regrets as the parchment burns.

Warming our bones on this autumnal night,
Bringing together our circle round,
Feasting, and chanting, we honour our dead,
Scrying, divining we now look ahead.

Sacred Herbs are thrown on the flames
Sacred woods, we cut and we burn.
And as the embers turn to ash,
Each will take a sacred twig,
To light the need fire in our dwelling place,
To keep us warm in the darkened days.
Sacred need fire of Samhain Eve,
Comforting all as winter draws close.

What a wonderful picture you have painted. Makes me long for a bonfire.

I agree ...
Time for to start a big ole fire in the backyard and invite the friends. If this poem is crafted to get us crackling with delight for a good fire, than SUCCESS!

I was trying desperately to put an image together after reading this poem, unfortunately Photoshop crashed umpteen times, the last time it crashed I had just completed the final layers, at 23:50 on the last night of entry    If it had been on paper I would have made it into fire.

Ah well, It'll be up for the next one.

In the meantime, it was definately inspirational to me reading this, and this is where I had saved it upto

There is more to add than I was going to so, it will be far more elaborated than above.

Hawky
She's the goddess of love
The goddess in green
The goddess of all
That I've ever seen
The goddess of hope
The goddess in brown
The goddess of all
That you've burned to the ground
