Flash and Bash

A sudden sound
Breaks the stillness
I jump in fright
It must be thunder
I have languished in my own world for too long
I have forgotten about the outside world
I have let Nature slip from my thoughts
I am being awakened
The storm is approaching
The thunder is louder now
I feel much afraid now
I have no protection
Even though I have shelter
The wind will blow through my window
The thunder sound will come through the walls
The lightning will strike where it pleases
I cannot hide in the closet
It won't do any good
I can't hide in my mind either
The thunder will break into my thoughts
I cannot run from the lightning
It's faster than I can even think
I guess I must listen and be afraid then
As Nature has something to say
And she is going to say it
Whether or not I wish to hear it
And so I ask you, Earth Mother
Please don't strike me down.

I thought I'd post one last thing and go out of this competition with a little flash and bash. :)

Sweet Green Druid, this reminds me of my fear of thunder as a child. All that energy and magic in one loud crash and flash!

I like the thread that runs through the poem..Nature will not be forgotten or ignored. If one tries she will scold that individual. Beautifully said.

GD, I could only read this fast, as if captured by that fear. It is wonderful, and I remember I had strange habit of hiding in the curtains when it Thundered and Lightened, I would climb on the window sill and wrap the curtain around me, I was off the floor and the lightening could see I was not in the house as it looked through the wimdows.

I also must thank you for tripping a switch to allow a memory to come through from behind the block that is on my early childhood.

Many thanks and congrats on a wonderful piece

She's the goddess of love
The goddess in green
The goddess of all
That I've ever seen
The goddess of hope
The goddess in brown
The goddess of all
That you've burned to the ground
