The Spirit of Atoms (A Meditation)

The Spirit of Atoms

The Deity which many of us honour is within nature and is therefore, the Universal Spirit of life itself. She exists in all things. We have many names for her and she has many faces. She was the pure force of life and energy which burst forth into creation and therefore she is everything. If she is in the trees then she is also within you because every atom which bonds together to make molecules and cells within you, has been in existence since the birth of the universe. Perhaps they have drifted through space for millennia and been attracted by the gravitational pull of the Earth. They could and probably have, bonded with other atoms to make rocks or trees or birds or oceans. Parts of you could have been flowing in a waterfall or even lava. Any atom within you could have been a part of dinosaur, a spider, Jack the Ripper or Cleopatra (or all of the above).

Each and every atom has made its own journey to you. They have each taken their own path to become part of what makes you and one day, you will be a part of their story as it continues.

Instead of floating away from your body to meditate, why not get to know it a little better and, just think, you could do this meditation 50 times a day for the rest of your life and no two experiences will be the same.

Make sure you are somewhere that you’re not going to be disturbed. If some light instrumental music, chanting or nature sounds will help you to relax, that’s ok. Do whatever you need to do to feel calm and at ease.

Lie down. Tense and release muscles around the body to ensure they are relaxed.
Breathe in through the nose and out through the mouth for a few minutes to start.

As you listen to the sound of your own rhythmic breathing. Begin to concentrate on your Solar Plexus. Feel the energy within it. Visualise it pulsing yellow light through your skin. Feel yourself move closer and closer until you pass through the veil of your own skin. You have moved into the world of cells which make up your body. Visualise them as slightly translucent orbs all around you. As you move closer to them, they seem to get bigger, until you are standing before one. You move forward and pass through its fabric and you have now moved to a molecular level. You see thousands of molecules made up of atoms bonded together. You stare in awe at the electrons whizzing around the atoms so fast that they appear to be everywhere at once. These atoms, your atoms, have been in existence since the moment the universe began. Every single atom within your body has taken its own journey to you. They each have their own history, their own story. The memory of its past is waiting for you within each atom. When you pass through into the atom, what you see will be whatever it chooses to show you. Consider your surroundings and why it has chosen to represent itself in the way it has. Listen to the Spirit at the core of life.

Hi there,

I'm from Birmingham in the UK. Thank you for the comments. I've only just started posting. The entries were kind of an introduction.

I look forward to conversing with you (and all).

I too, am a science geek. Too often, spirituality is seen apart from the world of science. You blend the too very well..as they should be.
