[Underground River]

Travel

Must go
Can't sit here
Reading
Anymore
Must leave now
Must move now
Must be gone now
Must leave my home
Dark and silent
Lonesome, forbidding
Must go away now
Find the place for which
I am always searching
Must see now
All the places I've longed to see
Must go now
Must say goodbye to my family
To my house
To my city
To my country
To my computer
To my sorrows
To my problems
To the stuff I'm not bringing
Must go and travel now
Write a log every step
Must make new memories
Of distant places
Of distant people
Of distant forests
Of distant oceans
Of distant mountains
Of distant beaches
Of distance itself
Must leave now
Can't wait any longer
Goodbye
I'll be back in a year
Or maybe two
Probably three
Perhaps four?
I really do not know or care
But I will be back
After I have seen
Distant mountains
Distant oceans
Distant forests
Distant people
After the memories are inscribed on the paper
After the longing to move has faded
To a love of the places
I have finally seen.
