Solstice Humour

Yo, sunny
I kinda like the fact that you give me light and life every year
It really is kind and good of you
But sunny, I don't know if I
Can worship you properly this year
'Cause the cold might kill me if
I go outside for even a second
Sun, I'm really sorry
But there's no bleepin' way I'm freezing
Myself stiff just to sing you a song
And speaking of songs, sun
There's no way I'll stand on a hill
Or stay inside and
Sing out the awen in my heart
'Cause, sunny, what would the neighbours think
If they heard me chanting strange words?
They might think I was crazy
They might send me to a terrible place
A place I cannot name for fear
But you know the place I am talkin' 'bout
'Tis where all the crazy people are sent
So I can't worship you properly this year
Sorry, sun, but you'll just have
To wait until I can be less shy, less cold, and less afraid
Of people thinking I'm nuts
And then I can worship you
I hope you understand
I tremble with fear that you might not
Believe me when I say
That I really do wanna worship you
But it's too cold
I'm too shy
I have too many neighbours
And I really don't
Wanna be locked up
For the rest of my life
So please don't be angry with me
Sunny, please, don't be angry with me!

This poem was inspired by the winter solstice and by the fact that everybody needs to laugh, even when overcome by awe and/or powerlessness.
