A Bard's passing...

Postby Selene » 24 Jul 2006, 15:44

I'm very sorry to report that Dancing Bear crossed over to the Summerlands on July 9, 2006. Apparently, he went quickly, as he had hoped to.

As you know, Dancing Bear was a prolific poet, and the friend who notified the office mentioned how much he appreciated those who read and gave him some positive replies about his works.

You may remember how anxious he was to join OBOD; he was able to do so a few weeks before his death. He had considered himself a Bard for years and I hope that having the "official" title gave him pleasure for the little while he was with us.

For Wayne:  :candle:

In the care of the Goddess,
You go home this day,
To your home of winter,
To your home of autumn,
Of spring and of summer.
You go home this day to your lasting home,
To your rest of great deserving,
To your sound sleeping,
To a new dawn,
And a new day.

Sleep now and so fade sorrow,
Sleep, Wayne, in the heart of truth.

To wake,
In a new light,
In a new love,
In a new life.

(Adapted from a prayer in the book 'Arianrhod's Dance')

Dancing Bear was one of those who stood out from the crowd on this board, both because of his poetry and because of his openness, about himself and about life.

I am very sad to hear that he has crossed to the Summerlands and will miss him a lot but am comforted to know that his dance continues.

Dear Wayne,
You were always writing verses
And always there to read mine
You always had praise for the work of others
A true bard's heart, good and kind
Your song lives on after you
In the memory of verse
And in the memories of those you touched
While you were on mother earth.

I shall never be able to forget Waynes passing, it will be a day of celebrating my birth and Waynes return to the Goddess.

Rest gently dear friend, return when your ready.

Hawky
She's the goddess of love
The goddess in green
The goddess of all
That I've ever seen
The goddess of hope
The goddess in brown
The goddess of all
That you've burned to the ground

I'm in shock - I've been hearing from Wayne re coming to our OBOD gathering next week, and expected to meet him there!

May his passing be easy and may he be in the Summerlands, at the gathering of his own friends and spiritual companions.

:candle: for Wayne.

My God - this is Dancing Bear that used to post alot of poetry and songs? I had no idea he was even ill.

May he rest in peace and find his way to new life again, free of all the troubles he had in his past here.

I'm sincerely sorry to hear that news. Thank you Selene for telling us.

Wayne, Dancing Bear - happiness on your new journey.

ps..I just went trawling through the Poetry Forum for some lines from one of his poems and I thought this one most apt. Posted in Poetry & Writing on 6th June 06 from his poem "what's in a name"..

" .....Past the pain and past the woes
Off I sail , the chains are broke
Up and away , as i go
Troubles are gone and thats all I know
What they call me , matters not
the love I spread , matters alot "

I hope you soar to new heights of happiness Dancing bear, evermore. -Beith
