Tim Sebastian has passed to the Summerlands

Postby Andraste » 03 Feb 2007, 00:06

It was announced sadly on LAW messageboard last night that Tim Sebastian, founder member of COBDO and Archdruid of the Secular Order of Druids, passed over at approx 8pm.

I never did meet Tim but read his works, admired his spirit and am grateful for all he did to further the work of druidry and to enhance this planet with his love and care for its creatures.

Go peacefully Tim, with the energy of the full moon and our love at Imbolc

Blessings to you all for your kind thoughts - I did not know Tim just put this on here because it seemed a good thing to do and important in case people who knew him would like to be informed.

I have been told today, via another board, that there have been furious complaints from another Druid board that I spelled the surname wrong.  Sebastion should have an O - I have changed the surname tonight - sadly I got my info from all the records available on the internet including Druid Network and COBDO - all spelling it with an A!

Very saddened that  those druids have nothing better to do than complain so :???:

What do they say about shooting messengers?

Tim was a true gentleman, and I shall miss his presence in the world, but the few occasions when we met I shall recall with gratitude - we are going to need his insistence that light will always overcome the darkness, and his sense of fun, more than ever now that he is gone.

Blessings on Tim's Journey

Postby Philip » 04 Feb 2007, 23:00

Tim was a wonderful fellow. I first met him at a meeting he had convened in Mells in Somerset together with Ted Williams, a member of the Ancient Order of Druids. John Michell was there and I remember us all sitting in a lovely English country cottage garden in the summer holding the first meeting of COBDO.

I particularly remember his deep rich voice with its West Country accent and his sense of humour. He was unique and I shall miss him greatly.
May his journey to the Summerlands be swift and sure!

Blessings on Tim's Journey, :candle:

PS. Thank you so much Jazzwitch for posting this. I hope you don't mind I took the liberty of correcting the spelling of Tim's surname for you!

Hello Jazzwitch,

It sounds to me like you are victim of the "nothing better to do brigade". Ignore them. None of them took the trouble to post the "In Memoriam" message as you kindly did and therefore they have no right to be "furiously complaining" about it. They would do well to shut up and be thankful that someone took the time and care to send some words of kindness and thoughts for the soul who passed over.

I did not know Tim nor know of him, but I pray for the repose of his soul elsewhere and for a happy new life to begin again, if indeed "death is but the midpoint of a long life".

with thoughts for Tim and his family and words in praise of you for your kind act,

Beith

I thought in my naïf younger days that a Secular Order of Druids must be a contradiction in terms, when I attended the High Court in London back in the mid-Eighties, to listen to the arguments in a case about access to Stonehenge, until I saw how Tim conducted himself in the court-room, and with what great respect he was treated by the Judge, and the other representatives of Druid Orders who were joined to that action.

Many tributes to him have been arriving elsewhere, mostly from people who do not have access to this forum. I wonder if it would be considered appropriate to re-post them here, verbatim?

In fairness, I believe others did not wish to post on OBOD regarding the passing of Tim Sebastian before the message had been passed to Philip Carr Gomm.

There is a reason for being here
In this world and in this life
There is a reason for leaving
When the purposes of this life are done.
The spirit must journey beyond
To pause to rest
To wait for those who are loved.
For the world beyond
Is a land of eternal summer
And of joy
Far from the cares of this world
With happiness and with youth anew.
As the evergreen does grow and prosper
Both in summer and in winter
Year after year
So also does the spirit continue
From life to life to life
Growing ever stronger, wiser and richer.
May the servants of the gods
Escort him with honour
To their own land.

Hello to all that knew and loved Tim Sebastian,

It is has been my very sad duty over the last few days, to let the Druid Community know that Our Dear Friend and Brother in Spirit, Tim Sebastian, Archdruid of Wiltshire and The Secular Order of Druids, passed from this World at 7.50pm on the 1st Febuary 2007.

It is very upsetting to lose such a Treasure....
I was with him, holding his hand during his last hours, as were very many of his most loved.
All I can say is, it was his Time...

.I would also like to say, at this very sensitive time for Us all, everyone has finally realized, in the shock of his passing from us, that Tim Sebastian was a very spiritual, very wonderful, knowledgeable and Special person.
A One-in-a-million...

So to all members of Our community that have been really moved by his passing, I say,

To finally, really Honour and Respect Tim, we must understand that The Council of British druid Orders was the accumulation of a life-time of his experiences and now it has become the culmination of his Lifes Work!

That is the legacy he left for Us.

How it manifests is also down to Us.

All of Us, as a collective, must 'hold fast' to his Dream.
That is the manifestation of an Open, Honest and Democratic working Council.

That was his Wish.

I thank him for sharing his dreams with me all those years ago, (before white-robes had anything to do with anything).

I have seen some of those dreams come true
http://www.xsense.co.uk/reburial/reburial.html and I intend to see more of his dreams manifest, as I pass on these dreams to others....

When we know when and where the funeral will be, I will be sure to let everyone know.

On behalf of the family I thank you all for your kind words...
He truely was a 'One in a Million' and I shall miss him so very much.

....A little piece of my heart left  with him....

From Kevan. Bard of Bath..

Dear All,
I was present yesterday, on his final day in this world, with Miranda, Rob and Dan, and it was difficult to see him so wasted away - to say the least - but we there for him, as Denny and others have been over the last few days. We talked to him and played him some Bonzoes (his favourite band).
I recited poetry to see him on his gentle way.
I'm sure you will join with me in extending sympathies to all those bereft by his passing.
He was an inspirational figure to many and a good friend.
His legacy will live in the revived Bardic Chair movement of England; the access to Stonehenge at the solstices, which he tirelessly campaigned for; and many good memories.
I shall miss him.

The photo of Tim on C. J. Stone's blogspot is from here
http://tenthousanddays.blogspot.com/

Tim Sebastian was a man of vision and an inspiration to all who knew him.
He had a huge impact on my life. I arrived in Bath the very day he began the Bardic Chair of Caer Badon on Solsbury Hill, 21st June 1996,
At the Winter Solstice 1998 I won it, and have been involved with it ever since. It has become my Path - and that in part was made possible by Tim, bringing the magic a little bit closer, creating a modern bardic tradition relevant to the here and now while honouring the ancestors and future generations. He was adept at dancing between the secular and sacred, his gentle touch making the Mysteries accessible to all. He was a bridge-builder, a peace-maker, a man of oak-knowledge and a Bonzo soul.
His legacy lives on.
Kevan

From Beakerspeaker. Stonehengepeace..

Tim gets a mention in George Firstoff's account of stonehenge 1986.
Relatively few found their way to Stonehenge on Solstice day. It did depend on which road block you came upon. But it was said that there were 42 from Hanging Langford site.
Tim Sebastian announced the Secular Druids would not perform their ceremony in protest at "Our brothers and sisters who could not be here" but the ancient druids [probably Loxley's Church of the Universal Bond] invited others to join them in a simple ritual in the road in front of the razor wire. Thus there was a new understanding of the situation

RIP
May your spirit fly to the sun rise of the ancestors from wood to
stone in ancient vessels born on heavens waters
The avenues to bare.
The druids vigel to the other side
The setting sun halo upon the hele
Like Arthurs dream Mordred no more
And the world turned upside down
cast excalibar in to the lake
upon Doze Mary´s shore........
The halcons turn upon the wing
The larks that sing for more
with the horn that heralds the feast
upon midwinters morn
the cycle seems reborn

From Galahad. Avebury Officer COBDOwest.

Tim will be sorely missed by a great many people worldwide...
his compassion, knowledge, wisdom, spirituality and understanding has inspired all...in his life-time, especially that of the world of Druidry. He had great visions for the future of the Council of British Druid Orders, and also that of the world of Druidry...
...I will miss you  but will never forget you my love

Galahad

We can Be his Wish

From Eire...
The membership of HOOD offers it's condolences to the relatives,
friends, and the druid family of Tim Sebastian.
Blessed Be,
for H.O.O.D.

Tim’s funeral will be on Friday 23 February at 1.30pm at Haycombe Crematorium, near Bath. It will be in the top chapel. Directions:

http://www.bathnes.gov.uk/BathNES/commu ... emCrem.htm

Afterwards there will be a wake at the Porter Butt pub on London Road in Bath. Directions: http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/ ... _Butt/Bath

I’m told there is plenty of parking behind or near the pub. Everyone is invited to offer words, songs or music in remembrance of Tim at this wake.

The family and the Secular Order will provide wreaths. Others are invited to contribute to tree or woodland charities – at the Porter Butt there may be an opportunity to donate in support of a grove being planted near Bath by friends of Tim.

Please consider this an open invitation and make sure that all Tim’s friends know.
