Gus

Postby tullsa » 22 Mar 2007, 18:34

I had to put my almost a year old pygmy goat down.  His name was Gus, named after my grandfather.  He was a little sweetheart!  I don't know what was wrong with him except he was in a lot of pain, probably an intestinal thing going on.  There are no vets in our area that know anything about goats and I don't think he would have made the 2 hour drive to the university where they DO know about goats.
Goats are very picky about what they eat and sometimes are very sensitive to different foods.  They have delicate digestive systems.
I know it sounds weird to grieve over a goat, but until you own a goat it's difficult to understand how really cool and smart they are!

:candle: For Gus. I'm sorry for your loss, tullsa. I've always heard pet goats have a lot of personality and I don't think it's strange at all to grieve for a friend's passing.

 for you tullsa - when we moved into our present home 15 years ago now, we 'inherited' a 10 year old goat with the property called Clarabell, a white Sannen goat complete with a pair of very large horns! Having no experience of caring for goats, it was a fast learning curve for us but well worth it. Clarabell was a real character and we came to love her dearly during the six years of her life that she shared with us, so I know how you are feeling.

Tullsa,

I also do not find strange the idea of grieving for a goat: you two had bonded as friends. Please take as much time with the grieving process as you need.

:candle: For Gus

and

:candle:   for you, Tullsa.

With sympathy,

tullsa -- I once, too, shared some land with a goat and fell madly in love with him -- even after he ate an inside chair. I don't think it is strange at all to grieve over the loss of a loved one, whatever their shape.

Love comes in all shapes and sizes...blessed be the creatures, great and small.

Your grief is not weird at all, and soulmates regardless of who they are, are precious.

Love and light to Gus, and you.
