Shilo

Postby Heartseed » 05 Sep 2007, 19:09

Shilo was a beautiful miniature American Eskimo, 17 years old. She loved to take her walks through the garden and even though her sight was failing she bounced with joy. But over the summer she started to develop kidney failure. The last four days she would not eat and last night when I turned my back to get her some water, she fell off the bed and something broke. She was in great pain and there was no real hope except to get her to the vet as fast as we could so she would not suffer longer than necessary. I held her until the end. She was my closest companion in the years since my husband died and she was also with him through the last years of his illness.

We will bury her tonight under the willow tree. May her spirit shine in the stars as it did on earth.

I am so sorry for your pain. I hope Shilo is smiling that beautiful American Eskimo smile and bouncing with joy...

I'm sorry for your loss Heartseed... i know what it's like on the downhill road of illness of a close companion... my dog Heidi is going through it, too.

For Shino :candle: I'm sure you will be guided by Whitefang and the many candles lit in your memory :paw:

Thank you all so much. Having lived with numerous animals over the years, there are always losses but this one is hitting paticularly hard. The house seems so empty with out her even though we have other animals. Our little Pom, who is closer to my son than to me, was very depressed last night and so are the older cats. Sean (who is somewhat of an empath) says he can hardly stand to go into my bedroom because the cats are so sad it makes him feel nauseated. So this is difficult for everyone.
