my little Rocky

Postby CopperLion » 20 Nov 2007, 22:49

Thank you Lady Nimue for setting up this forum. I think it's one of the best on this message board :D

i have many little furry children to remmeber but one of the best was Rocky, my little German Shephard-Malamute mix. He was blind since birth but that didn't stop him from being an excellent watch dog. One day someone tried to "jimmy" the lock to my apartment door. I was home at the time and I opened the door to see what was going on. Rocky rushed out between my legs and stood at a perfect guard dog stance barking his head off at this sleezy guy who stood there with a terriefied look on his face. That guy turned and ran in panic. Rocky and I walked back inside and of coarse I lavished him with praise and doggie snacks for his excellnt work. Little Rocky passed away at the age of 4 and a 1/2 years from lung cancer. Rocky taught me the meaning and pleasure of serving someone else, I became a "seeing eye" person for a blind dog. :D :wolf:

Bright Blessings to All :lion: :tiphat:

Your Rocky sounds wonderful! He probably still guards your home with the same loyal love he showed you in life.

I miss so many beloved dogs - most were German Shepherds - a marvelous breed.

Rocky must have been a wonderful companion and we can learn so much from animals who live with a disability such as blindness. It's just amazing how they cope :)

Animals give so much to us. Although Rocky was not here for a long period of time, it is obvious to me that he was well cared for and loved. You did more than most people would, CL, with a dog that many would have thought should never have been given the chance due to blindness. And it sounds like you both reaped the rewards. Rocky may be gone but his memory lives on.

It is amazing how disabled animals learn to cope. Rocky never had any problem getting around at home, that is to say he didn't run into walls or furniture and moved around fine on his own. The only time he had a problem was going up/down staircases, but I discovered early on that if I placed my hand on his back and walked with him up or down the stairs he did just fine.

Blessings CL...and my deepest sympathies. This forum was created by the hearts of those who mourn their animal babes and wish to memorialise them....now your love has contributed, as well.
How remarkable our beloved furbabies are.....such inspiration they give.
They face what they must, and stoically they make the best, and live life. They seem to understand that its not the physical self that makes the individual, and their love is the purest.

Copperlion, with the greatest respect intended, I have moved this memorial to our "Rainbow Bridge" section, where it will be properly honoured.....may most adored babes are remembered there, also.
Just remember the love...it transcends thoughout all the Realms.

Thanks Lady Nimue and everyone for your kind thoughts. Actually, little Rocky passed away about 22 years ago. I'm long past the grief and have a TON of happy memories about that furry little guy and the good times we shared together. By now he's probably considered to be a senior member of The Rainbow Bridge, he's the Alpha Male of the clan of all my furry children that have passed along and are patiently waiting for me at "The Bridge".
