Last night out cat companion of almost 19 years passed to the Summerlands. He is a Blue Burmese and one of the most loving cats I have ever known. Over the past month kidney failure and a return of diabetes were taking their toll on him. Yesterday it became obvious that his time was now. Our neighbor is a veterinarian and agreed to come over at 8PM to send him on his way. ABout 5 minutes before she arrived I looked out the window to see cats walking down her driveway to just sit at the end and stare at our house.
He had a great last day. It was finally warm and sunny and he got to sleep on his pillow in the front window. He got a lot of petting and brushing and we discontinued the IV and insulin shots. He also got to eat what he wanted, which was smoked salmon in quantity.
He went quietly into the night as the moon rose and the sun set, and is now with his chosen patroness, Sekmet.
He was much loved and will be much missed.
