Well, I don't have the where-with-all to produce such a thing, but if you know of a source, let me know...or better yet, do your own version!

Konnichi Wa to All:

I found another version of the Tale of Ceridwen that is posted at:

http://arthsoc.drruss.net

That is a website of the Oxford Arthurian Society. I wrote them the following Email Letter, which goes:

Konnichi Wa to Oxford Arthurian Society :

I am a Member of the Druid's Head Pub, and they just put on an Internet
Non-Profit Radio Station called RadioDruid. Right now, they have a real
good Recital os a serial called The Red Cross Knight. You can listen to the
Radio Station by clicking on http://www.radiodruid.org

I am wondering if it would be alright for me to do a Recital of your Tale of
Ceridwen for RadioDruid. I would be doing on a totally Non-Profit Basis.

It would be nice to have a Recital on RadioDruid of something that you have displayed on the Free for All. How about it?

For your information, I am known as Ki No Ronin on the Druid's Head Pub
which is at: http://www.druidry.org/board/index.php

------------------------------------------------------------------

The Actual Tale, which is displayed on the Internet, viewable to the World for Free, goes:

The Tale of Ceridwen

It is said that, about one and a half thousand years ago, in the island of Britain, there lived a woman called Ceridwen. Like many in those heathen days, Ceridwen practised witchcraft. She had two children, one a girl, who was very beautiful, and a hideously ugly boy, by the name of Afagddu. To compensate for her son's deformed visage, Ceridwen decided to concoct a potion that would transform her otherwise socially disadvantaged son into a man of high intelligence and great vision. Carefully gathering together certain herbs with magical properties, she placed them in her enchanted cauldron, and, no doubt with the help of some water from a sacred spring, or even some mead left over from the previous Beltane, she began to brew the mixture.

Unfortunately the prescribed cooking time was a year and a day, and not even Ceridwen, despite having two children who constantly kept her awake, could go that long without sleep. So she entrapped a boy named Gwion, and made him stir the mixture.

Whether or not Gwion knew from the beginning what the bubbling and steaming liquid he was in charge of could do does not seem to be known, but towards the end of the year he succumbed to temptation and took a tiny droplet of the burning syrup from his finger. At once he was filled with knowledge and wisdom, leaving none for Afagddu. Ceridwen noticed the change in the boy, but didn't act soon enough, and Gwion fled, leaving behind him the now worthless contents of the cauldron.

Gwion changed himself into a hare to escape Ceridwen, but the witch matched him by becoming a greyhound. Into the river they plunged, Gwion becoming a trout, his enraged employer an otter. Again Gwion escaped by changing form, soaring from the water as a swift, but followed by Ceridwen as an eagle. In the end, Gwion turned himself into a grain of wheat, hoping he would not be noticed, but Ceridwen metamorphosed into a hen and ate him up.

Yet it appears that Gwion had managed to pull off the most skilful transformation of all, for when Ceridwen resumed human form she found she was pregnant. Some months later she gave birth to Gwion. Although she still hated the boy for robbing Afagddu of his inheritance, he was now her own flesh and infanticide was suddenly beyond her. She put him in a leather bag, and threw him into the turbulent waters of the River Wye.

As luck would have it, the bag was caught in a weir belonging to Prince Elphin, who found it and opened it. Struck by the appearance of the baby, he cried "Radiant Brow!" and that duly became the boy's name, or rather, as it was said in the tongue of those parts, Taliesin. Of course, Taliesin grew up to become one of the greatest bards of Britain.

Some centuries later, an Oxford undergraduate found herself in need of a name for the magazine of the Arthurian Society, which she had started under a name already being used by another publication. Staring into the plastic cup from which she had just quaffed some mulled wine, she was put in mind of the above legend. If the magazine could contain all the knowledge that Ceridwen had tried to transfer to her son, she would be very happy! And that is why the Oxford Arthurian Society magazine is now called CERIDWEN'S CAULDRON!

---------------------------------------------------------------

I sent the Email to the OAS yesterday. I just got up and checked my Outlook Express and there is no reply yet.

ummm...KNR....Radio Druid isn't associated with this board or OBOD in any way... It is just a little hobby thing I do at home...you won't find any mention of OBOD anywhere connected to it.

I appreciate the enthusiasm and good luck with that. I will air it if you get permission and produce it, but I don't really want to "associate" Radio Druid in any way with OBOD or the Druid's Head, to avoid any embarrasment, differences of opinion, etc.

I just Registered onto the Oxford Arthurian Socieities Message Forum and posted a Recital Permission Request thread. I basically posted another copy of the Letter I Emailled them yesterday. The thread is viewable at: http://drruss.net/aforum/viewtopic.php?p=257#257

I hope I get a positive responce.

If I do get a positive responce, then I will have to figure out the programming to get my computer's microphone to work and save Recitals and then start reciting off the OAS's Tale of Ceridwen, and then email it to Ambarii for him to play on RadioDruid.

If this works, it would get me some good marks towards making full fledged Bard someday.

And everyone will get to hear what my voice sounds like.

Wa???!!!, Sumimasen to All: I had gotten the wrong end of the stick on that issue.

I thought that since a high placed Druid such as Philip-San started this thread that it was something that the OBOD had hired Ambarii to put together.

Anyways, I will be patiently awaiting the responce from the Oxford Arthurian Society. If they give permission, and do the recital for RadioDruid, I will make sure to provide them a copy for their Records.

no no...Philip was just gracious enough to lend his good wishes...this is purely my gig....no money is involved from anyone....if anyone does anything for Radio Druid, it is purely on a voluntary, not business basis.

KNR,

I tell a version of the Birth Of Taliesin which I'll be trying to get digitized within the next few weeks for Ambarii to check out and play on RadioDruid. I have a few stories I would like to do this with, let's see if I can find some time in my busy schedule for this project. I do have my system ready for that sort of work, only question I have to answer myself is if my microphone is good enough for this, it should be, I bought it for the purpose of doing voice recordings.

Kicks in the butt may help keep me moving on this *wink*

Cheers,
~MP, mad for RadioDruid

Is it a Winamp problem or does Radiodruid only play of each song the first half?
They played Rammstein but onlye the first 30 seconds and Dido was done very quick as well.

Yep

I loved the Gandhi speech this afternoon! And I finished a long skirt for the summer (next weekend) and a bag that goes along with it. If I can take a picture of it I'll put it in the next Eisteddfod.

Is this the Link to the Tune your referring to?:

http://www.omnia-neocelt.com/mp3/morrigan.mp3

It was not 7 minutes long, but it was a nice Flute Music followed by some Celtic Chants.
