Mey, I remember hearing a story of a man once who faked his own death, just so he would know what others would say about him when they thought he had crossed over. Disguised, he went to the wake to mourn his passing, attended his own funeral, burial and was in the far corner for the reading of his will listening. Before the lawyer finished (by prior arrangement) the lawyer stopped the proceedings and the man unmasked himself before his shocked family, friends, and colleagues, and told them what he had done and why. His lawyer then served divorce papers to his adulterous wife, disowned one of his children, fired his second in command at his company who'd been cuckolding him with his wife, and had him served papers as co-respondent in the impending divorce, and signing in full view of all present, a new will drawn up during the previous few days, and left his estate to his daughter, a nephew who had proved to be much more than the man had ever expected, and to an old man who worked for him who knew all the things he had learned were going on behind his back for years, and rewarded the man's loyalty & friendship with his former manager's job.
We generally don't or won't go to these extremes to learn what others think of us, but we should always remember to tell those we care about that we care for or love them, admire them, etc, while we and they are still residing in this life.
