I'm glad to see this new sub-forum. I've been trying to teach myself at least rudimentary Welsh for years, and I haven't honestly had a lot of luck. I look forward to speaking with you all here!

If we have any native welsh speakers here I hope they can correct me, but I think that bendithion is the feminine plural. But it would be worth while checking on usage, because it may be that bendithiol makes more sense (I'll check with my da )

Bendithion is fine as a parting. Its what I use anyhow. Bendithiol would be referring to something that has been blessed ir is blessed.

Some more uses and definitions:

bendith - singular feminine noun (blessing)

bendithio - the verb 'to bless'

bendithion - plural form of the noun (blessings)

bendith arnat - a blessing upon you

bendith arno fo - [ " " vo] a blessing upon him/it

bendith arni hi - [" " hee] a blessing upon her

bendith ar y bwyd - [ben-dith ar ur boo-id] blessing on the food

"Bendith!" is also sometimes an expression of frustration, as in "bless me!"

Any hints on studying effectively? I had no difficulty at all picking up Spanish and French, more with German, and Welsh has defeated me for a decade or more!

I know it's dificult to learn dry, that is from books alone. If you can, spend some time in the company of Welsh speakers and practice your vocabulary. It's worked for a few good friends of mine and we can now have full dicussions in Welsh.

The library, however, does have a Welsh course on CD... perhaps I can start there, at least.  :)
