What Instrument do you play?

Although I am primarily a consumer of 'classical' music,

(when I use lower case, I am refering to the overall genre of 'serious' music, if I capiticalize Classical, I am referring to the period.)
I do play piano, clarinet and recorders and took piano lessons for several years as a kid. I am mediocre at best and can handle easy Beethoven sonatos and the easier Bach inventions with difficulty and lots of practice. Since I cut a tendon in my left index finger this has become frustrating. I recently got a violin to literally play with, but this seems impossible.

Since several people have said they play instruments, I am curious what they play and at what level.

Hey! Well, I play the viola, violin, and cello. The viola is my primary instrument though. I was in the Dearborn Youth Symphony when I was a kid thru high school, and I've also auditioned for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra twice.I didn't make it  :cry: , but, that's ok, I can always try again next time. Plus, I would like to audition for the Dearborn Symphony this fall, I didn't get to practice last year. Hey, where do you get the musical clefs? I want an alto clef!

Sigh. I'll see if I can find one for you somewhere. And a bass clef, while I'm at it, so the bassists don't feel left out...

I play(ed) piano and clarinet - but haven't in a long time - like since High School.
I also selected "other" because I sing.  I think voice is an important instrument.
I also dabble on the guitar, but I play folk, not classical guitar.

I played Cornet and Tenor Horn in the village brass band for years, it was like conscription - as soon as you were 9 or 10 you were given an instrument and expected to make some noise. On the plus side you do get to go to just about every well dressing, village fete or agricultural show within a twenty mile radius. I now content myself with a tin whistle and some home made drums.

I forgot one instrument, the Theramin. I got Chris a kit to make one year for Xmas. I can't say I play it, more play with it :D

Clarinet here, for round abouts forever now, lol.  Been a while since I seriously played but I'm trying to get back up enough for a try out at the college out here... hopefully, lol....

I voted but never properly posted to this thread, I just realised.  I used to play violin from age 8-late twenties but haven't played much since then, which I somewhat regret.  I have also sung in a choir for a while.  I always wished I'd learned a keyboard, but can't really imagine finding the time to start now (maybe I'll get so keen it will happen, but not yet).  I've also occasionally mused about writing music, but I don't have the skill of some people I've known where this is concerned.  The absence of keyboard skills is probably a bit of a problem where this is concerned...  Oh well.

Hello!

I'm happy to see Clarinet is holding up so well in the poll!  I played in the highschool orchestra.....and then didn't play for a long time.  I have now been taking private lessons for a couple  of years now, and I'm really enjoying it.  I might have to hook up with an actual orchestra one of these days :-)

I also play Sax & Tin whistle.  I really enjoy both, but Clarinet is still my first love :-)

Hi,

My first love is the flute - although I just don't practise enough to be any good, really, yet people seem to appreciate it when I improvise round the camp fire  :)

I also have a recorder, clarinet, electric organ and auto (or chord) harp. I don't play any of these very well, but like most instruments I can get a simple tune out of them. I learned on a French horn, so I can get something out of most brass instruments. I do like to sing, and I've got a little more than the average Joe, but again, I just don't practise enough to be very good.

I used to play the piano, guitar, doumbek (Egyptian drum), and zills (finger cymbals).  
My favorite instruments are the wooden or cane flutes of the Andes.  I don't play them, but collect them: sikas, zamponas (panpipes, reed flutes), quenas, tarkas, etc.
I also have a charango (made from an armadillo shell), and played it for awhile until my cat chewed and broke the strings!

I also have a rainstick, seedpod rattle (similar to chajchas), Native North American cedar flute, several ocarinas, 3 drums (Native North Amer., Mexican, and Egyptian dumbek), a sistrum (Egyptian percussion instrument that the goddess Bast holds http://www.goddessgift.net/images/Godde ... m%20Fr.jpg ), a tamborine, and an Irish-style harp (made most likely in Pakistan - was a gift from someone).  I've played these on occasion.

I voted that I have played:  piano, classical guitar, percussion, and ancient instruments.

I'd have to say that my favorite instruments to listen to are:  Inca flutes, Charango, Guitar, and primitive-style drums.

I have to admit that I love to sing and although my children play a host of instruments, until this weekend i never owned one of my own.

I have just aquired a didgeridu, and a drum to help in journeying, i hope i can get to grips with them
