RIP Steve Irwin - Crocodile Hunter

Postby Unikorn » 04 Sep 2006, 07:09

Steve Irwin - known and loved as 'The Crocodile Hunter' has been killed filming for his latest documentary.  He was struck in the chest by a giant stingray and died.

Steve did great conservation work, bringing to life so many creatures that had been hunted through prejudice and fear such as the crocodile, shark, stingray....

Rest in peace and much love to his family.

Just read about this a few minutes ago. What a great loss to education and conservation efforts, and to those of us who always loved his exclamations of, "Crikey, she's a little beauty!" as he hauled out some deadly reptile by the tail...

He will be greatly missed.

today we have lost an icon... a man that brought the "scary odd creatures" into our everyday lives.  He loved the creatures of this earth with a passion and love that he shared with us in youthful exuberance.

I am saddened to hear that his wife does not know yet of his death.

He brought joy to all those who watched him and started many young people on the path of conservation because of his enthusiasm. He will be missed.

Thank you for starting this Unikorn. My fiance and I were deeply saddened by this news as Steve was a personal hero of Ant's and someone we have always enjoyed watching and learning about. We always knew that one day his love of getting up close and personal with the animals he so cared about would get him into trouble - I think he knew this too but this didn't stop him from taking enormous personal risks to persue his passion of wildlife conservation and education. It is far too soon to loose him, he still had so much more left to give.

My heart goes out to Terri and to his two little ones Bindi and Bob - may they find comfort and peace in this time of grief and perhaps some solace in the fact that Steve was a true hero and that his memory will live on in the hearts of his fans and in all the fantastic work he has achieved.

I pray that Steve has found peace and rest - I feel certain that in the world of spirit there will be a whole host of animal friends waiting to greet him with love and gratitude.

We will miss him.

Aww you made me cry all over again flowerfairy - bless!

I think you are right about the host of animals.  I admired him so much for his way of educating people about the beauty of creatures they had been taught to fear.

A true walker upon this Earth!.  And yes, my heart goes out to Terri and the kids too - I don't even know if Terri knows yet cos she was apparently in Tasmania.  A great hole for her to walk I am sure.

In great sadness I respond here, as he was one of my personal 'Heros'.  His charisma and love for all life, especially reptiles, made him famous; and in turn, he brought to the world a better understanding and appreciation of many 'misunderstood' creatures.

Steve Irwin will be greatly missed.
