Happy New Year  :yay:  well sort of...

So here we all are
End of December
What was this year like?
I can't remember

It's all a blur now
The nights and the days
I try to peer back
Through thickening haze

But the noise drowns all
Can't visualise
Successful recalls
A pleasant surprise

Fog's getting thicker
It's driving me mad
My lack of recall
Is making me sad

It comes to us all
Some soon, some later
But I can still write
It down on paper

So may you have, in
Two Oh Oh Seven,
A bright New Year that
Seems just like heaven

And I will now say,
Before I forget,
I wish you all have
The happiest yet

Blessings to All  /|\ :yay:

I'm sitting at a rather cluttered desk
In a warm, half-darkened room,
Writing and hoping that new stories
Will dance in my mind soon.

It's one (long) week into
A glorious and exciting new year
But there are no signs of snowflakes
Traveling on their way here.

A winter without glistening-white snow
Has got me in a bit of a gloomy funk,
Though any pirate ships that might want to pass through
Will have absolutely no worries of being sunk.

In my little corner of this very large world
The clock says it's pretty much ten after twelve
Sadly it's nearly time for me to crawl into bed
So into another complicated day I can delve.

To all ye gracious ladies and gents of OBOD:
Have an awesome time today, wherever you be!
Good morning, afternoon, evening or any other time of day
Smile, laugh often, and may your hearts be trouble free. :)

Dear Lisebethea, pray draw a bit nhea,
while I try to banish your phea.

While you have slept, the sky has been swept,
quite clear of worry and doubt.

Winter's snow awaits in the wings,
preparing for you some wonderful things.

A drift of gleaming, pristine white,
a mountain bathed in lambent moonlight.

Laughing children, all bundled up warm
are sledging and skating, ignoring the storm.

Go back to your desk and pick up your quill,
fashion these thoughts with your bardic skill.

I know that soon your muse will appear,
refreshed and renewed, re-polished and clear.

So I now depart, exit stage right,
catch me a moonbeam, and wave you "goodnight"

Falling Leaves I was
when this thread began
and Dancing
into Shadows
I ran.

As a naked man
Awen did leave
blown far along
the summerlands breeze

And the conversations endure
come what may
until at last all meet
in the undying day.......

This thread has the habit of going to sleep,
(Too many Bards counting too many sheep?)

But morning has broken, the muse has awoken,
And words, they are covered in dust.

So come along friends, and without more ado,
Let us pick this thing up from the floor.

Lets primp it and pat it all back into shape,
With freshly-washed face, and eyes wide-awake.

Polished and shining and stood by the door.
I am sending it out on its way.

My topic was cleaning and starting again,
Now I pass this on over to you.

My suggestion's Improvement and following on, let's see how far you can take it. Don't forget to suggest the next topic
(or not  )

Well, someone's awake and doing their stuff
But once ev'ry two months just ain't enough
So 'Come along chaps,' as the English say
Get back to rhyming and brighten our day

But if you're not into rhyming your verse
Don't hit the keyboard and shout out a curse
Just write some Prose because we like that too
So let's get started without more ado

So if you can't compose poems or songs
Make up some prose about Emoticons
Place one on the end of each line of prose
Then we can all have a good laugh at those

The Memory of the Bard

Postby RedKite » 20 Jun 2007, 14:51

The Memory of the Bard

Oh where, oh where can those words be?
Has Mnemosyne deserted me?
Where are these words I cannot find?,
Have they completely left my mind?

Or are they hiding, lost from view,
Waiting 'till I find something new
To say and then that finds the link
And they emerge, from 'neath the sink.

Do other Bards all have this trouble,
'though their cauldrons boil and bubble,
And you just sit there, looking glum.
No drops land upon your thumb.

I guess I'll leave it just to brew,
Then it may conjure something new
To bless me with, some other day,
And for that time I'll hope and pray.

Sleep, sleep Aidan dear,
You will be sorely missed here

And venture you to the other side
As the veil goes thin at Samhuinn-tide

I'll go back now to look through your words
and memories of them I'll hold.
"bardicwisdom" the name was true
And your words rang truer than gold.

Rest well in the summerlands, my friend.

Aidan - see you soon my friend

Postby RedKite » 17 Oct 2007, 22:17

I'll not stand at his grave and cry
He is not there, he did not die
Angelic harps all struck a chord
As Aidan passed to his reward

Peacemaker, story teller and
Poet of our OBODy band
With happy smile and cheerful joke
He entertained this ageing bloke

As walls grow thin, just for a while
I know I'll see his happy smile
And not too long from now my friend
I'll see you at my Earthly end

:duir: I'm happier person for knowing you Aidan :duir:

it's true indeed, the dead don't die -
we feel them near us when we cry
while straining through the mists of mind
yet cannot see their faces kind
or hear their voices softly talking
their sweet shades beside us walking...

awen walks down myriad paths
sits at myriad human hearths,
and these poems that we rhyme
or skitter down the rungs of time
are pathways fair that bring again
to us the angel-deads' awen

I envy you all
such creativity such talent
to write in rhyme and not have a conversation fall,
so not to impose
but I thought I'd give it a try,so here goes.
I agree the dead to not truly leave
They stay here and else where alike
They just no longer breathe
Their souls always near
so that every plea you have they may hear.
You will meet again
wether new life or in the dreams in your head.

I will improve on the whole rhyming conversation,
my practice has just started and is not done,
so have lee-way,give me some slack
dont worry! when I get better I'll pay ya back!
I feel so light hearted if I went outside I'd drift awayImageImage

Well done, airgead mac tire
from such youth, you write with fire.

She wonders, with dawning spring
upon us, will the poets draw their breath
to bring us eloquent sonnets?

Greetings from Scotland, a bright sunny morning,
Birds all a-twitter and tree-buds a-borning,
Days getting longer and longer with light,
Winter still with us, but the outlook is bright!

A blessing upon you, druids and kin
May the warmth of the sun fall full on your skin
Bring a light to your eyes and a song to your tongue
And skip to your step now the world has grown young!

Here in the mountains of Carolina it is also a sunny day and perfect weather to go out and play. A walk in the woods of the nunahi and many wonderous things to see how thankful I am just to be.

with softening memories this dry year
sometimes the salt tang of distant seas

Life and Death on the Hill

I walk the ridge that is the Malvern Hills
It’s high and cold so I am dressed for snow
Life still carries on, what e're the weather,
Some still sleep but others out hunting go

The cold Brother rushes in from the East
Mother Earth lifts him toward the blue sky
The Buzzard rides this wave, like a surfer,
as he searches for his food from on high

A movement below, as a vole scampers
The Buzzard folds his wings and drops to ground
Unseen death approaches for this morsel
This is the law of life upon this mound

With merciful swiftness, talons end life
for he that is lower in the food chain
The Buzzard’s dung then feeds the plants to feed
more Voles and, for them, life comes round again

Think I'll get my hair cut
Though the styles are few:
A 3 or 4, I think, but
Too brisk outside for 1 or 2!

My avatar shows salad days
When hair and beard were thick and brown,
Now I've entered a different phase:
Less is more upon my crown!

I'm making up the lack on top
With a greying beard
I'm almost 50 after all!
So do not think it weird

That I should want to look my age
And Not like some young rock star ...
I'll leave glamour to this web page
And my banjo-playing avatar!

I've never been fond of the look of a beard,
But I'll not judge,in fact, I don't at all think it's weird.
If it's what suits you best then more power to you.

My Mother and I decided to eat only raw food
I was surprised because it's all vegan, and very good.
I've made a few changes in life, that being one
And I've got a feeling the changes are not done.
I have been fairly light hearted and happy,
and with only a few ruts here and there you see.
But I've been remembering my deceased friend,
His name was Odie (Odin) He was my dog...he kind of went insane near the end...
But when he was alive he was my best friend, he was with me when I was sad, with me when I was happy,
We used to run together, and with him I always felt so free
He was a husky, German Shepard, wolf mix...
He was weird and barky, and love to chew on sticks.
I miss my friend, but it's best to let it go and not put chains on his memory.
And I've been thinking lately, the smart ones are the troubled ones because there mind is not blind to the worlds happenings, and sometimes the truth can be scary.
I feel so light hearted if I went outside I'd drift awayImageImage

This morning, this here thread I seek
To wake me from my slumber deep

It feels almost like coming home,
to allow my rhyming thoughts to roam

The talents of Bards here I do read
While my energy does recede

My talents here I do present
Although I think my Awen's spent

Some time with trees I soon foresee
To inspire and re-energise me

My time is up, I have no more,
I invite another to take the floor...
