Lots of stickies and announcements

Make suggestions about the organization of this Board.

Excellent comment Araneae, I've noticed it myself as well a couple of times, you actually have to scroll down to get to the actual topics

I like that idea.  A sub folder for announcements.  My only problem is would anyone actually check it, though?  Hmm.  Definately an idea to be kicked around, though.  Selene? Kat? Art?  Any thoughts?

But with so many stickies, I tend to just skip down them anyway, so they don't get checked out any more (by me anyway) than if they were in a subforum. In fact, if I knew they were specifically OBOD only announcement subforum, I might actually pay more attention to them :)

I agree that there are too many stickies proliferating on too many forums.

I have no problem with it if others think it would help. we could have one sicky saying "Go read the sticky subforum!"

Let's give it a few days to see what others think.

Feel Free to purge the 'Full Moon Meditation' reminder sticky.  I'm not a mod there anymore, so I can't un-sticky it.

Well, my Virgo self is all for tidying up. I like katsu's suggestion about letting us know if an announcement has been amended or a new one has been posted. Something like screaming read type, maybe?

Any further thoughts on this?  It does seem odd that the first thing you see on some forums is a long list of announcements and stickies which no-one much is contributing to anymore (assuming they are not read-only).  It makes the forums look a bit dead if you have to scroll down to read anything new.  Maybe if some of the stickies are deemed necessary, they could be resposted with more than one subject merged together in a thread and the title altered accordingly.

I do find all the stickies and announcements to be a bit much.  Some are important but I wonder if they all need to be there.

I run a gaming message board, and after a few months found that we had a lot of stickies in the various forums, which took up half the screen before you even got to the posts.

So I only allow Announcements to stay in situ for a maximum of 30 days - most are removed after 2 weeks - to give those who don't visit often a chance to see it.

I then created a new forum for Information only.  Into this forum I put the STATIC stickies.  This then left the rest of the forums clear for day-2-day stickies and announcements.  Much cleaner, people took more notice, and the static info was all contained in one place.

Not sure how viable that would be here though - but I do know that when a sticky is in place too long, people ignore it.

Yes, you start to get a kind of selective vision!

I just posted to an old thread in OBOD Gen but you have to scroll down just to get to it.  Maybe I would have been better off starting a new thread in Suggestions, since it was a suggestion anyway.
