Oh what a shame.....a meaningless loss of precious life, taken by those that dont understand the meaning of life IMO.

Shambo, you will live in my memory and heart....you did not die in vain.

I light my candle not just for Shambo, but for all cattle culled due to TB. They are the innocent victims of ineffective disease control. Unfortunately, Shambo did pose a risk to animal and possibly human health. The extent of TB in the UK cattle herd is a huge problem, and I come home today from a farm were all 53 animals in a herd have just been slaughtered for the same reason. The stockman was  in tears ( of sadness and anger).

..it's just awful isn't it? I know that they cannot risk infecting the herds but as you say, disease control could be vastly improved as with some farming practices in some circumstances. I was just thinking back the other day, to the foot & mouth outbreak that saw thousands upon thousands of animals culled and the prion disease BSE in the 80s that destroyed so many herds. And on the TB front, the poor old badgers don't do well out of it either.

With all the money invested into animal health, you'd hope that effective dosing and containment strategies would come to the fore.

RIP all the animals slaughtered, for food, for disease, for overpopulation and that ethical slaughter and kinder means of doing so, could be implemented worldwide.

Hi all,
While we recognise the importance of the TB issue, the intent of this thread was to memorialise Shambo's life.
As highlighted by Shambo's death, when TB is suspected/diagnosed, it has such major effects on both people and animals. As a result of this a thread has been started in the Pets & Wildlife forum and we hope you will post some thoughts on this topic there   :)
