2007 Book Review Contest

Postby Aigeann » 30 Jul 2007, 21:20

We are excited to announce the first (hopefully) annual Book Review Contest of the Reading Room!

The person posting the most book reviews wins  $25 (US) gift certificate to the OBOD Bookstore.

The contest rules are as follows:

*Contest opens 12 a.m. August 1, 2007 Greenwich mean time and ends 12 a.m. November 1, 2007, Greenwich mean time.

*Open to the global public (not just OBOD members).

*Reviews must be one's own work, must be a minimum of 100 words in length and have not been previously posted anywhere on the Internet before the beginning of this contest.

*Reviews must be in English.

*Each review must include a basic overview about what the books covers as well as some specifics why you would or would not recommend this book to others.  The more details you include, though, the more appreciative everyone will be of your efforts.

*You may add your individual review of book which has already had a review posted before the start of the contest onto the OBOD Message Board or OBOD website.

*Reviews can be of any book by any author and by any publisher, even one that has already been reviewed in this contest by another contestant, but the book must somehow be tied to Druidry.

* Reviews of books that seem vastly unrelated to Druidry must include an explanation of why you think the particular book is pertinent to your own Druidry.

* Reviews must comply with the OBOD Registration Agreement.  Note this also covers plagiarism.

* When posting a review of a book that has not yet been posted upon, the poster needs to begin a new thread.

* The Board Administrators and Reading Room Moderators have the final say.

* Comments, negative or positive, about the individual reviews posted or reviewers must be sent by private message to the author.

Blessings, Katsu & Aigeann

Contest

I think this sounds like a great idea!  I just finished unpacking my books after my move, so I'll have to get some reviews ready.

I'm a little concerned, however, about the winning qualification.......that the person who submits the MOST book reviews wins.  I just got rid of a whole pile of books for my move, so my collection is more quality than quantity.  And also, I would rather write a few good reviews than a whole pile of short 100-word ones.

Perhaps each review could qualify one for an entry into a draw.  That way, even someone who just writes one review would still have a chance at winning, but someone who writes lots of reviews will increase their odds.  Just a suggestion, anyway.

Thank you for that suggestion.

After mulling it for a couple of days, I think it might be best to go with the rules as they are because of logistics.

However for NEXT year, because we hope this will be an annual contest, I think we might do just as you suggest.

Thank you for your idea.
