Alex

Postby isilindil » 09 Sep 2007, 23:07

I remember getting you from the pet shop. Nobody wanted you and you had bare patches and a bad eye. I took you to the vet and in no time you were happy and running around. Even your bad eye didn't seem to bother you.
We got Xavier in to keep you company. And Lukas build you this huge cage for inside. You were the cuddliest of the two. And it was so sweet how you and Tim would sniff eachother. Xavier was just a huge scaredy-cat. But your curiousity got the better of you. And it was so cute to see Tim and you touching noses. His huge border collie nose and your tiny black guinea pig nose. I think even Tim has noticed you gone and misses you.
Last Sunday I went and got a young baby guinea pig to keep Xavier company. He was really missing you and depressed. I think you would've liked Spiky. He's got spiky brown black fur and is about 7 weeks now. He's settled in nicely and the two get on well. Even Xavier has become more trusting now. Yesterday he didn't even scare away when I fixed the water bottle to the cage.

I really miss you, Alex. And I feel really guilty about what happened. I thought that I left you in good care when we went away. You see, my sister and her boyfriend were working all day and I didn't want to bother them with cleaning your cage as well as looking after the house. That's why I asked the neighbours boys to look after you.
I'm really sorry that they didn't do it. And just thinking how your last week must have been, breaks my heart.
Lucky for Xavier at least, that my sister did check on you two on the first weekend and realised something was badly wrong. She cleaned your cage and fed you. But it was already too late for you. On Monday you had died.
You know, the neighbour's kid realised that he'd done something wrong, because according to my sister, he didn't turn up again for over a week!

I miss you. And I wish I could turn back time and change things, but I can't.

I hope that you are in a beautiful place now and having lots of fun. Meadows of fresh grass and yummy flowers, crunchy carrots and juicy celery. Warm weather and always sunshine. And lots of other guinea pigs to play with!

Be at peace and we'll always remember you!

Jackie

What a beautiful eulogy, Jackie...

You need not bear both pain and guilt as well. You thought you had done the right thing. This isn't something you can blame yourself for. It was likely time for Alex to leave, anyway. And I bet he is loving the juicy celery they grow over the Rainbow Bridge!

Thank you all! I thought this was the perfect place to remember him. And it helped to say goodbye to him.

We'll be holding a small ceremony and planting a little tree or plant on his little grave in our garden during Spring Equinox. I'm sure he'd prefer celery or carrots, but I think I'd prefer something more lasting
