Runentekens / The Book of Runes

Postby Ghostrider » 23 Oct 2007, 11:27

By Francis Melville, Libero-printing (Dutch) / Piers Spence, ISBN 90 5764 451 6.

Lots of books to find on Runes, but this one jumped from the shelf to me :D
The English title is a bit presumptious perhaps ( THE book of Runes?? :-) ).

It's a small book, something you might be able to cram in your back-pocket if you wanted to
Like many other books it describes the history of the Runes, materials you can use, how to get the runes ON the material ( very helpfull... ) and various methods of laying or throwing runes.

What made this one stand out to the other books on Runes ( including the ones I allready have :-) ) is how VISUAL it is. The descriptions of the Runes themselves are accompanied by pictures of the Runes on several materials, Gods and Godesses associated with them, trees, plants, stars, plants and animals associated with them, but all in a very organised way. It doesn't get messy or confusing.

I also found the descriptions of how to combine Runes into talismans and 'spells' quite usefull. The book also warns not to mess with the Runes, since it's powerfull stuff you're dealing with. Stick to what you can control, don't go overboard.

Great stuff!

That was my first rune book for only 3€ NEW!!
If more needs that book, it has been reprinted lately and with a bigger price, but I will check again this afternoon if they still have it.
It is an easy to read book, good associations, althought as ghostrider pointed out, they not always correct since some of the associations are made with a new age flavour.
Sometimes it explains also the edda next to the rune.

Ghostrider: element of runes is also a good book! written by Bernard king.

Blessings.
Words, mere words, Vivid, clear and sometimes Cruel!!!
Yet ... they have a subtle magic in them.
