I hadn't even noticed the 'magic' number...but alas it's late, and I'm tired...so I'll fetch my pruners in the morning.

Nice little rodentia, Pangur-ban! Thank you... Here ya go, sweet kitty -- some thick, tasty cream. Mmmm...

Isn't that better than peas with vinegar all over them? Sure it is. Lap it up before the roaches get to it!

Twig, I really think only the Brits would understand fish, chips and mushy peas covered in vinegar. It was even better in the days when they came wrapped in old newspapers and the ink mixed with the vinegar :-)

Oh, how I yearn for real chips in newspaper. Two and a half pence a bag from Charlie's Chippy in Crawshawbooth. :old: [Hee hee. I've always wanted to use the old gifford emote and never had the opportunity before.]

WOW - the thread is still on, even after the 500 mark. So I have to get in my 5 cents worth and hope to be the one who is starting the new thread

Did I hear Fish and Chips somewhere??? Please - I haven't had them for ages, and I am missing it. I had friends up here and have been left with lots and lots of veggies, so currently, I am on a healthy diet of broccoli casserole, Chinese stir-fry and similar. Fatty fish and chips sound like heaven. And I have to attest to the fact that mushy peas are to die for: I never had them until I came to the UK, and was very sceptical at first, but now I prefer them to the normal peas.... I just cannot stomach the vinegar - now that is British tastelessness at its best :duck:

On a good note: I have finished that d*** essay - thanks to all the people who have promised to review it. So now I am studying the secrets of the rocks..... First exam is in 6 weeks.

And BTW: I am off lent - anybody care to offer me a :irwhis: ???

Then there was a bag of scollops or scratchings depending on what part of the country you come from.

now that is British tastelessness at its best

And if there is one thing we know how to do in this country it's bad taste

Thanx, Pangurban, I am surprised that a cat would actually hand out alcohol - mine consider it an insult to their sensitive noses and tend to leave when I take out the Whisky. :D

And yes, British Tastelessness is unsurpassed, at least as far as food is concerned... I had an English friend who was married to a Spanish Guy, and whenever we visited, we hoped she would cook Spanish food. It insulted her greatly, to say the least. OTOH, I must admit that as far as dessert is concerned, British food is great - it is just the main courses :duck:

A good morning WOOT to all.

The fish and chips look good, MamaB (though not for breakfast). I don't know about those peas, though. I'll pass on the newspaper ink and vinegar too.

A multi-talented cat! Definitely a fine addition to the R0wdies.

Col. Volestrangler(retd) writes:

"Whilst travelling in my youth , I found myself in the desert regions of Carthage , and being of inquisive mind found myself poking around in the sand-dunes . After many hours of fruitless toil I came upon an ancient clay bowl - suprisingly intact after perhaps a thousand or so years in the sand . On the side of the bowl were etched these letters , which sadly i cannot decipher"

"ITI
SAPIS
SPOTANDA
FIN
EONE "

Can you help?

I can't help with the inscription, but I believe I saw a similar bowl on the Antiques Roadshow a few weeks ago. There was also some writing on the bottom of the bowl which read

MA
DEINC
HINA

Does your bowl also have this inscription?

Sirs, pray desist.

I had the great misfortune to be taking tea whilst reading your recent discourse, and it all shot down my nose.

Hey, Twyrch -- thanks for stopping by! We miss you around here.

Say, we're going to need a cook around here, what with all of this talk of fish 'n chips. (I think I would love the fish, chips, & peas, but definitely not the vinegar. ICK!) Applicant must also be able to make genuine old-fashioned burgers. Anybody?
