Irish Mythology - translations and sources

Postby Beith » 18 Jul 2008, 21:19

Hi folks

Some interesting reading for those of you who enjoy Irish mythology. The sources quoted in the weblink below are generally excellent - being scholarly translations of medieval manuscript versions of a wide variety of myth tales.

This weblink gives a very useful collation of some of the sources for online translations (and Irish versions) of a large number of tales - congratulations to its author/creator for putting them together (thank you!)

Hello Beith!
Thank you so much for providing this link! It is solid gold!
I am working on a children's curriculum for ages 6-15 and this will help me alot posting.php?mode=reply&f=73&t=28906#
The only link that I have tried that didn't work was in the last category of "other documents" with Irish schoolchildren relating some of the tales. I have enough information to track it down, I believe :)
Thank you again for your generosity!
Have a wonderful day!

Glad you are enjoying it! It's so kind of people to do the indexing and collation of materials as it makes access so much easier for everyone.

I use CELT a lot and it's rather excellent so hopefully others are using it too. The manuscript references and cataloguing are all well indexed so one can trace the original sources if one wishes. {Go to "Published" or "Captured" on the homepage and type in the piece you want or scroll down through the list]

Ditto ISOS - Irish Script on Screen. No translations but beautiful high-res images of the manuscripts in various collections. It's nice to see the real deal when you can!
[links to both ISOS and CELT are in this forum for anyone interested. Some translations are on CELT and the MaryJones website has scholarly translations transcribed thereon for anyone who cannot find material in CELT]

Good luck with your various researches/reading interests. I hope such links are good for you. Great to know people are still checking in here from time to time!
