Isabella de Fortibus
Isabella de Fortibus was an extraordinary woman who ruled my Isle, Devon and parts of Hampshire, Yorkshire and Cumberland for thirty years in the late 1200’s. A widow at the age of 25 who refused to remarry, she is described by historians as “Beautiful, formidable, intelligent, energetic, the equal of any man in a man’s world”. What a woman!
