I'm reading The Red-Haired Girl from the Bog (Patricia Monaghan) for the first time - just started it and am keenly anticipating a great read!

Also re-reading Guards! Guards! (Terry Pratchett) - I just can't help myself... I must have read this a dozen times or more but he's so funny and very profound at the same time, and always cheers me up and makes me think at the same time, no matter what.

Have you read "Good Omens", which he wrote with Neil Gaiman?

Possibly the best book I've ever read!

Yeah Good Omens is brilliant - devastatingly funny... my favourite Pratchett is The Fifth Elephant. Have you read - and if you haven't, you must - Nation?

I love all of the discworld novels. Difficult to say which would be my favourite, I think it depends upon how I feel at any time!

"Nation"? No I haven't read that one. Just read the synopsis on Amazon - looks another winner!

The Mayor of Casterbridge.....again. The master of the bleak and beautiful, that is Thomas Hardy. For a taste of paradise, read the first chapter of "Return of the Native" and the description of "Egdon Heath".....sends shivers down me spine...

Soul Music has character that comes from a druidic background, but the book does not focus on this aspect. Have to say thaty this was the only Pratchett book I did not really get into so far. Loved all the others. The Colour of Magic was made into a film by Sky and there are some druids in the book where a sacrificial female is rescued but who does not wish to be rescued at first. Favourite aspect of the film was the chest that run around on legs, simple things and simple minds and all that.

"13 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear" from Walter Moers.

Walter Mores is a german comic-strip artist ("Little Asshole") and this is his debut novel. It's fantasy with quiet a good humor in it and I love it (like most of his novels, for example "Rumo: And His Miraculous Adventures" and "The City of Dreaming Books").

I'm reading 'Vampires, Wine & Roses' which is a compilation of relatively obscure stories/poems, many by classic authors. I just finished a fragment of one by Lord Byron, for instance, which he outlined and partly wrote but never finished. Anne Rice wrote a hilarious lyric to go with the 1994 movie based on her classic 'Interview With a Vampire'. I found a new Poe (Ligeia) in there, and ones I never heard of by R.L. Stevenson and Arthur Conan Doyle. Also poems by people like Southey, interspersed with one of Stephen King's short vampire stories and the lyrics to Sting's 'Moon Over Bourbon Street'. Great stuff.

I'm reading a bunch of other stuff, too, but that's what sticks out most in my mind!

I have been reading around Buddhism, two great "intros" (The New Buddhism by David Brazier and You Don't Have to Sit on the Floor by Jim Pym) and a novel (Buddha Da by Anne Donovan).

Currently reading through the latest issue of Resurgence (http://www.resurgence.org.uk/) but next will be some Christmas books: His Illegal Self by Peter Carey, which I got for my wife, and re-reading Beechcombings by Richard Mabey, which she got for me

Yeah, Buddha Da was one of those books where you feel a bit bereft because you just want to keep following these characters' lives. What's next? Buddha Ma? Lol!

I'll have to look up Buddhism without Belief, but I'm taking a wee break from reading and going to do some doing.

I've recently finished reading "Golden King of the Forest: Lore of the Northern Bear" by Juha Pentikainen. Very good.
Now I'm reading someone's PhD thesis on the acoustic and visual signals of domestic fowl. I'm now looking forward to being able to read the books I got for the Solstice....
