Thank you Beith that was very interesting,
I must say though I have always had the feeling that St. Patrick came to Ireland for revenge!!
As we know he was kidnapped as a child from Wales, but he got to return home again and I feel he came back to Ireland on a mission to change our ways and culture. Good he had a dream asking him to return to bring Chritianity but he suffered so as a child I don't think as a human being that he would have returned really happy- he knew that the Christian faith was on the rise in the World and I think he was also a wizard or druid himself first as the old stories tell more about his powers he used to convert the Irish people and they seem very much more to do with Druidry than Christianity. He built his churchs on all the old druid sites and used the old druid festivals and changed them into Christian ones so I think he was after the power of it and revenge.
Regarding the serpents he slay I personal do not think there were any snakes at all in Ireland the snakes he slay were human as regarding all the many stories of the animals that die if they come in contact with any thing Irish ( everyone in Ireland has at least two good stories they know where and why this happened ) I think it is more quantum physics really all eyes are waiting for it to happen so it happens. Honestly why would a man determined to change a faith of a country spend so much time getting rid of the animals in the country?

These are just my gut feelings and I have always felt St Patrick was not who he was made out to be in Ireland.
