Sea ice extent tells us what about the state of the sea ice at the ocean’s surface, not what’s happening below. Arctic sea ice has been steadily thinning, even in the last few years while extent increased slightly. Consequently, the total amount of Arctic sea ice in 2008 and 2009 are the lowest on record.

no, it hasn't, would be the right answer. And just think what "that volcano" Eyafjallerjokull? - I think that's enough syllables - but the letters don't look quite right - is doing to the rate of glacier melt!

If nothing else, the debate over climate change is still heating up, perhaps more like the hockey stick of political hot potato!
Unlike the Antarctic,
Arctic ice is "sea ice" and from what I have followed, is very sensitive to ocean currents and thermal warming patterns caused by the natural shift in these currents.
http://www.scientificblogging.com/chatt ... _state_iceA better indicator of global warming would be the Antarctic.
http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/IOTD/view.php?id=5081For the data to be real, it must be proven.
After all the titanic sank because of melting sea ice.

Dyro, Dduw, dy nawdd;

ac yn nerth, ddeall;
ac yn neall, gwybod;
ac o wybod, gwybod yn gyfiawn;
ac o wybod yn gyfiawn ei garu;
ac o garu, caru Duw.
Duw a phob daioni.
