Origin of Yin-Yang symbol

I, for one didn't know about the roots of the symbol, and am now a whole lot wiser :grin: This is intriguing and interesting.

That really is interesting.
The other point that I picked up on was the orientation of the solstice parts as well - you'll notice that the summer solstice is at the top.

This is interesting because Chinese map orientation has South at the top and not the bottom.

(also pleased as it meant I got the orientation right of my tattoo!!!)

I'd decided that for this latest one, I would use the Ba Gua "Later Heaven". The image that I found on the web had the yin/yang "horizontal" rather than vertical, so I decided to edit it before taking it into the shop (note: tattoo artists tend to suck their teeth quite hard when you offer something that is simply circles and straight lines :oops: :D )

As I reorientated the central symbol it seemed more "right" to put the light and shade in the way reflected in your link - without noting further about the North/South winter solstice/summer solstice orientation... until last week.

I guess the Tao (and my spirits) guided me! :yay:

Wow, I guess that's another thing I learned today.

I never knew the yin yang symbol had a point of view with the sun, chinese calendar, and seasons.

Just curious by your comment Golden Eagle - what meaning of the yin/yang were you aware of? I ask because the symbol has a very deep meaning in it's simplest descriptions, so I am curious to ask.
