Odd images in meditation/journeying

Postby Julysea » 10 Jun 2010, 09:23

This may sound odd but it's a serious question - do other people get really odd and maybe inappropriate images in meditations and journeyings? I mean, I'm always reading about people finding their power animals and their spirit guide and it's always some archetypcal image or deeply significant image, but I often get really weird stuff. Last night I was doing a guided meditation about meeting a 'wise person from an earlier culture' and who popped up but William Wallace as played by Mel Gibson in Braveheart! Does this mean it's just my subconscious playing tricks are the things imparted by this experience still valid, even if it's imparted by Daffy Duck (or similarly absurd)? Is it just that TV/films/fiction books play such a huge role in our subconscious these days that characters from them are bound to pop up from time to time? Are they the new expressions of ancient archetypes? And lastly, why Braveheart - argh, I saw it once many years ago and hated it! :where: :shrug:

Something about the Braveheart charactre must have struck a cord with you and the mental image you have is 'as portrayed by ...' We have many images of Jesus 'as portrayed by...' and perhaps a few interpretations of Merlin 'as portrayed by ...'

Maybe you could look into the historical Braveheart and see what he has to say to you. If it's something that sticks with you, chances are Mel will disolve and you meet the 'real' Braveheart.

Or it maybe just a blue-painted warrior; a much more ancient Celtic archetype...
Most dear is fire to the sons of men,
most sweet the sight of the sun;
good is health if one can but keep it,
and to live a life without shame. (Havamal 68)

A few years ago I did tried doing guided meditations but kept getting cartoon images, which had no coherence or meaning whatsoever. But I think, having intense work, my mind rebelled against doing anything serious and just wanted to relax, so incoherent, meaningless images it was.
