Healing the back-garden!

Postby MistyNightWind » 11 Jun 2010, 16:29

For years now I have felt that the land around where I live is damaged- which is ironic since I live next to a nature reserve which used to be a railway line. Today is used for walking and riding bikes.

I have spoken with one other like-minded person and they too agreed with me- that the land here feels so empty like all the spirits of the place have up and left, in otherwords desolate.

I've not proctected my back garden- I figured start on a smal scale- using the wards from the book- Druid Magick. For the next step I was thinking a cleansing and concentrating ritual.
Firstly, what do you think of this idea?
Secondly, would salt water be damaging to the plants? I do apologise for my ignorance!

Other Additional Info:

In the past 100 years there have been outbursts from nature such as gorse fires, and the railway line caused alot of damage to the trees. And at the top of this place there has been ghost sightings.

The higher concentration of salt outside of the plant cells in the soil causes water to move outside of the cells to try and equalize the concentration. Some root cells of plants that do not tolerate salt may die, and if bad enough the plant will die. The damage gives the plant a burnt look, often on the leaf edges first. The same thing happens with too much of any mineral.

Some types of plants, such as mangrove trees, can tolerate higher levels of salt and not be damaged. Their cells have a high concentration of salt already in them so the water doesn't move out. Some even separate salt from the water and excrete it through their leaves, roots, and branches.

Out of the night that covers me, Black as the pit from pole to pole
I thank whatever gods may be For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance, I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears, Looms but the Horror of the shade
And yet the menace of the years Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll
I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul.

Thank you Nighfalls, in that case then I may use a very diluted salt water, or just use water. I would think that at the end of the day it's more about the intention behind the action rather than the presense of salt?

Hi MistyNightWind,
Just a few ponderings,
What is it you want your back garden to be protected from, and do you feel unsafe yourself if you feel the need for protection?
This is a whole subject in itself perhaps others here can advise you better than I, and of course I don't know you, but I would say be careful about setting wards etc and before you do anything intrusive, I think you have to begin looking at the deeper picture first.

When you say the place feels empty that there is no spirit or heart to it, can you describe in more detail why you feel this way? Does it feel more empty at different times of the day or in different seasons.

If it is a nature reserve, who is responsible for it, try to find out why it was made a nature reserve, what is special about it, there must have been a reason it was made a reserve in the first place.

Perhaps try and make a plan of it see what is growing on it and what inhabits it, get to know it in detail throughout the changing seasons. I wouldn't rush into the use of 'Druid Magick' without having a greater understanding of your place, this of course takes time and commitment from you. If you build up a positive personal rapport with it on the physical level, you may find you can begin to communicate on other levels and find out why it seems empty and what is needed to bring the heart back into it. Perhaps the spirits of the place are hiding, perhaps they need welcoming back when the time is right, try meditating frequently there if you can, record your experiences and any thoughts or impressions that come to you - don't go off your first thoughts but do see if a pattern emerges over time. The only thing I would try to do on a more spiritual level is send out your love to the place frequently and see what happens.

Lots of druid stuff is very slow and painstaking, but results will come as you begin to truly know this space.
Let us know what happens!

Hi Skydove,

The place feels like it has no heart, no energy and it feels cold; I think it is worse in some parts of the reserve than others- some places I've visited and I can feel the energy there; here it just isn't there. I have meditated and sat with the place and still no response apart from a low shreiking howl from an apple tree- which I tried to commune with in the Otherworld.

I protected the garden as I felt it needed it, but did stipulate that all wildlife, residents of the house and those we invite in are still allowed through. I guess as well if the place was protected this stops any other influence from else where.

As far as I can find out it's a nature reserve due to those who brought it, also because it's very hilly round here it doesnt lend itself to being built on.

There is a fair amount of wildlife here- animals including birds, trees and plants. When I try to ground my roots never want to reach into the ground.

Thank you for your advice, I will get a map of the place, continue to meditate there and send my love to it.
