Not sure where AODA might sit on that spectrum... Or any other Order for that matter.

From reading Greer's book and watching their mailing list, they seem to be of the modern revivalist flavour of druid, very much like OBOD. They also seem to have a penchant for the druid's chapeau (I used to know the name of it), which I very much like...I think it is fun. I ordered one from them, but was laughed at and marginalized by me fellow grove mates, and I eventually gave it up, bundled with Greer's book, at a retreat blanket exchange. Since that time, I have been unable to take seriously a form of druidry that does not employ funny hats...the dour, puritain "Old Ways" bunch....:

What do these higher degrees cost?

The lifetime membership fee for the First Degree is US$100. For the Second Degree, the fee is US$100, and for the Third Degree, US$50. There is no additional fee for ordination to the priesthood or consecration to the archpriesthood.

This thread perked my interest,
And some ideas they have are interesting,

I however wonder a bit, as to what Degree I would want to buy....

After a minimum of one year as a Candidate and the completion of the First Degree training program, Candidates may apply for initiation into the First Degree, the degree of Druid Apprentice. After two more years and the completion of a more extensive course of study, Druid Apprentices may apply for initiation into the Second Degree, the degree of Druid Companion. A minimum of three years of membership as a Druid Companion and the completion of an individually designed program of advanced Druid training and practice is normally required before a member may be proposed for the Third Degree..

I would have to poke around a bit to understand the system of the AODA, as it's a bit different from what I remembered. They apparently are re-energizing the group.
It seems to be a degree system, different a bit in name anyway from our bard, ovate, druid system.

I like this book on their reading list;
Rob Roy, Stone Circles: A Modern Builder's Guide to the Megalithic Revival (White River Junction, VT: Chelsea Green, 1999).
This lively book explores the world of modern megaliths and their makers, and includes detailed instructions for building a stone circle of your own. More details

So what ever they were before is obviously changed, and might grow into something kind of new and good.

I'll keep a ticker on them and see what happens. Good to see a druid organization take hold here if possible.

That would be a Nemyss, I have several nice stripey ones from my Golden Dawn foray and a big old white starchy one that makes my head look as if it is in full sail...

Maybe we ought to form the Society for the Protection of Extravagant Nemyss' in Druidry (SPEND).

Greer is a former Mount Haemus Scholar and a Druid Companion of OBOD, I find AODA practice to be compatible with OBOD although the AODA tends to have less of a Wiccan influence and more of a Welsh/Barddas flavour.

Wow this has certainly taken off since my last visit here- which was only yesterday!
This has all been very interesting, I agree with Merlyn that the sound of the AODA does sound good, however I would only be looking for an Order in the UK.
Still seems though that the AOD keep to themselves rather.

As for the Nemyss, well each to their own

I am not 100% sure, but I think the fraternal lodges like the AOD don't...errr...like women in their ranks.....I think it would be a good form of druidry to take...a non-religious/non-partisan community service group....if it wasn't for the exclusion thing.

mmm...yes it does, it seems strange in this day and age that an Order would be so patriarchal, but maybe this is their way of being traditional.

Ah well, looks like OBOD is still at the top of the list, well actually OBOD is the list :D

OK heres another one I've come across actually via OBOD on another thread- but a very old one- http://www.druidschool.com/site/1030100/page/45029
They call themselves Ireland's Druidschool. Has anyone else here come across them before or done any courses with them?

I've sniffed other hydrants, too, but precious little is available here in the US (other than that macho grove). Besides, I am totally sold on the OBOD; I like the people, and I like the way the gwersi are planned out.

I am pretty much sold on OBOD too, as I like how the course is organised, the people that I've met on here and that myths and legends do not seem to be over emphasised either- am I correct in saying this?

This is at least compared to the other'"hydrants" I found.

i recently listened to the podcast where they did an interview with one of the big ADF guys, and i think they have an interesting view. I am sold on OBOD though <3 :cloud9:
Out of the night that covers me, Black as the pit from pole to pole
I thank whatever gods may be For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance, I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears, Looms but the Horror of the shade
And yet the menace of the years Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll
I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul.

If you go onto their website they have some interesting rituals and meditations- seems like you get for from the home course in this one- I dont think Id be able to choose which area to study like you have to with the ADF.

I'm just beginning to wade into my local pagan community. ADF is the only available Druid group (Houston, Texas area). Though I intend on barging in on one of their social meetings soon, I have no urge to stray from the OBOD curriculum; the open interpretiveness is right up my alley.

The "New Order of Druids" is another Druid Order that's open to all and provides free courses online.

Being pagan, I like the ADF a lot since they are much more outspoken on that issue where OBOD continues to wonderfully bounce back and forth in true OBOD fashion  and I'm a big fan of old Isaac, even before I met him in person. But to confuse the issue further, there are Druid Orders on the European mainland, too. Most of them, I understand, are rather masonic or even of the "teatime" variety that organizes flea markets for social purposes and such. Some of them expressly don't allow women in their ranks. But there's others, and you will find them mainly in Brittany - naturally. They are also active in Germany; I was a member of one for a while since the local group here also included an OBOD Grove.
