This forum is dedicated to the quest of our common humanity, especially in the exploration of the underlying commonalities of the human condition, the similarities between faith systems and philosophies, and the Druidic search for all that unifies rather than divides. This is a public forum, viewable by guests as well as members, and is cataloged by most search engines.

The term "Common Quest" does not mean that ultimately there is one faith system, or one lowest common denominator. It means that we are all trying to do the same thing: find the meaning of our existence in this common humanity that we share.

For the Beauty of the Earth

Postby Dendrias » 01 Jul 2010, 21:54

Do You know Rutter's song? My wife used to sing it in a catholic students' choir - and I didn't only like the melody. It's really, really ... moving.

For the beauty of the earth
For the beauty of the skies
For the love
wich from our birth
Over and around us lies

Lord of all, to Thee we raise
This our joyful hymn of praise

For the beauty of the hour
Of the day and of the night
Hill and vale
And tree and flower
Sun and moon and stars of light

Lord of all, to Thee we raise
This our joyful hymn of praise

For the joy of human love
Brother, sister, parent, child
Friends on earth
And friends above
For a gentle
Thoughts and mild
For a gentle
Thoughts and mild

Lord of all, to Thee we raise
This our joyful hymn of praise

For each perfect gift of Thine
To our race so freely given
Graces human and divine
Flowers of earth and buds of heaven

Lord of all, to Thee we raise
This our joyful hymn
This our joy ful hymn of praise

Thank you Dendrias,

never heard about this one.

It is beautiful, a celebration of life and an expression of gratefulness towards the Divine Source.

The older I get and the more different paths, traditions and religions I get to know, the more I believe that despite all outward differences there is an inner spiritual nucleus that is always the same. After all, we are all humans who are in pursuit of a little happiness and who want to set ourselves in a relationship with the Divine. And through times and ages, we always have been.

Blessings of the solstice season,

Eilthireach

I wish to learn the things that are
and understand their nature
and to know God.

I must say, this is very beautiful piece of music.
It has a nice rhythm which flows like the gentle wind in the plains.

I would like to thank you Dendrias for bring this up. since this really has peaceful harmony to it.

Also, I think that no matter which religions there is, there will always be something like this that brings everyone together. ^__^

Really like this song, I sang it a couple of times with school choir. Church music can be wonderful.

Very moving beautiful words and as has been said a stunning video. I think whatever path we follow we all walk in the same beauty to reach a common goal. Thank you for sharing this lovely song. :shake:

Blessings.

Here is one of my favourite hymns when I was a child, looking back it seems very druidic now, it's by Henry Van Dyke 1852 - 1933

By the breadth of the blue that shines in silence o'er me,
By the length of the mountain lines that stretch before me,
By the height of the cloud that sails, with rest in motion,
Over the plains and the vales to the measureless ocean,
( Oh how the sight of the things that are great enlarges the eyes)
Draw me away from myself to the peace of the hills and the skies.

When the tremulous leafy haze round the woodland is spreading,
And the bloom on the meadow betrays where May has been spreading:
While the birds on the branches above and the brooks flowing under,
Are singing together of love in a world full of wonder,
( Lo, in the marvel of springtime, dreams are changed into truth)
Quicken my heart, and restore the beautiful hopes of youth.

By the faith that the flowers show when they bloom unbidden,
By the calm of the river's flow to a goal that is hidden,
By the trust of the tree that clings to its deep foundation
By the courage of wild birds wings on the long migration,
(Wonderful secret of peace that abideth in Natures breast)
Teach me how to confide and live my life and rest.

For the comforting warmth of the sun that my body embraces,
For the cool of the waters that run through the shadowy places,
For the balm of the breezes that brush my face with their fingers,
For the vesper hymn of the thrush when the twilight lingers,
Now with a breath that is deep drawn, breath of a heart without care
I will give thanks and adore thee God of the open air!
