Some of my favourites include:

Clannad, Capercaillle and Loreena McKennitt.
Ed Alleyne Johnson, Dire Straits and The Levellers.
Metallica, Tiamat and Iron Maiden. (Dickinson vocals – Not Blaze!)
Bach, Vivaldi, Mozart and Jacqueline du Pre.
And I’m still stuck in the 80’s    with Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Heart, Aerosmith and ACDC. (With Slade as drummer!)

Awesome thread!  Ack, only 5?  Most of the people on this list have disregarded that particular parameter, as will I.

Tori Amos, Ben Folds - piano players extraordinaire
Loreena McKennitt, Afro Celt Sound System - where Celtic takes on a new meaning
Melanie Doane, Alanis Morissette - female vocalists on a journey
John Denver, Tim O'Brien - my folk & bluegrass roots
Bare Naked Ladies, Jack Black - who can sing and be funny all at once
The Cranberries, Sinead O'Connor, U2 - Irish rock
Therion - in a class of their own where ethereal meets metal
The Tea Party, Jeff Martin, The Tragically Hip - folk rock with powererful roots
Imaginary Heaven, Anuna - ethereal and haunting brilliance
Ashley MacIsaac, Mary Jane Lamond, The Irish Descendants - the tiniest sampling of the brilliant traditional music coming out of Newfoundland/Nova Scotia/Cape Breton (Eastern Canada)

Mediaeval Baebes, Omnia, Faun, Qntal, Kate Rusby, anything folky and acoustic.

I just "found" a band called Carreg Lafar. If you've never heard Welsh folk music you should check them out, they're superb. Kind of like an early Clannad. Except in Welsh, obviously ;)  (you can find them on iTunes)

Would anybody be interested in doing a Mixtape swap?
On another forum I am a part of, we put everyone's name into a hat and everyone created a mix "tape" (CD) for a person, and posted it to them.
The CDs for that particular thing were on any theme (e.g. seasons or something) but it could just be a selection of your favourite music. It would of course require that you give the person your postal address (via PM of course, not on the board). I'm happy to facilitate if people are interested?

Rock (Van Halen, OLD Metallica, Rush)
Symphonic Metal (Sonata Arctica, Epica, Kamelot, Nightwish)
Island Music (Jimmy Buffet, Bob Marley)
and some other random things.
Out of the night that covers me, Black as the pit from pole to pole
I thank whatever gods may be For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance, I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears, Looms but the Horror of the shade
And yet the menace of the years Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate, How charged with punishments the scroll
I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul.

Courtney was great! Rawked through her set, was in great voice, looked terrific, was charming. Not really Hole, though...Courtney and back-up band
Joan was OK, but sounding dated...
