New Order of Druids

Postby Huathe » 24 Sep 2010, 15:51

Grove,

Since embarking on my path of druidry I have been seeking a way to formal education. I love the method that OBOD uses but at this time cannot afford monetarily to take the course at this time. However I have found another organization that offers an online course very affordably. Their basic course is for free and their more specialized course which includes a mentor is very reasonably priced. Their use of the Internet eliminates shipping, manufacturing and printing costs which are many of the reasons OBOD courses are so high, especially to overseas students like me. They also use sponsors ( advertisers ) on their website which I am sure adds to their monetary income enabling them to give free courses.

Their Druid College is called " The Grove of Dana " and is stuctured quite a bit like OBOD The courses are: Bard, Ovate & Druid. Also like OBOD you have a choice on how you practice. Either as/or including religion or as a philosophy.

I still overall like OBOD better. Having the course in hand plus the audio material is a big plus. I still may end up taking the OBOD courses at a time when I am better off financially to do so. I still will remain on the OBOD Druid Grove forum.

Any opinions on the New order of Druids?

If OBOD druids are OBODies, would NOD druids have to be called NODies?

sorry

In school I started a gang called The Nine Annas and we all added Ann as a middle name to our regular names. When the boys found out they called us the Ninnyannas.

They're called Enn O' Eddies, of course! :)

Davin Raincloud set me on the tracks of NOD, so I subscribed but haven't started the course, yet. Also, I'm very accustomed to this kind of fora, and people of course.

HAHA you guys get back on track :D

I think the best way to prossed is to decide what course you would rather do and the commit to it. I think if you do NODs bard course and then after OBOD bard course (or vice versa) probably there is going to be some overlap of a lot of stuff.

If you prefer doing the OBOD course then i would suggest taking advantage of their offer to reduce the price and write them a mail about the situation you are in. I think once you have the bard it's always easier to wait with ovate and druid because then at least you have the basic parts of the spirituality and can start practising...

or at least that is my 2 cents as a university student on reduced price :D

Hi James,

I'm a member of N.O.D. as well. The author of the N.O.D. course is also a member of OBOD. The material is beautiful though quite different from the OBOD course.

Personally, I found the OBOD work a better fit so I never continued with the N.O.D Bardic course. But that's just me. I hope you enjoy it and wish you all the best!

I know a few of the NODdies also. Their Chief among them.
It's a different group than OBOD, but not any lesser, me thinks.

Perhaps their 'level' is not 'up to par' because it's a younger organisation, I don't know. I reckon it's for everyone to decide for themselves, but it IS a nice group of ppl.
I'm busy translating their Bardic course from English to Dutch and it looks pretty good to me. Guess that's also for everyone to decide.
The fact that their course is free (donations always welcome  ) is always a good reason to give it a go. It never hurts to have a look.

My personnal experience with NOD was not one with a happy ending.
In the end, their chief and I had arquements because he letted politics visions into his explanation. By this I ment the 140 anti groups I received each day. That aside, I do their course in combination with OBOD one. I have to admit , the course they offer is quite good, and for me then, is a nice add on to the OBOD course! I can only recommend reading through thier course, but I feel a better connection with the animalistic vision of OBOD in our rituals then the wicca led callings in their rituals. But this is personnal taste offcourse.

Indeed, they are a young group and many meetings is about seeing a video about some celtic knowledge. Their leader is a walking library about celtic historical knowledge and has written a few books about them as well. The course was written from some irish person I never met, which I believe is very nice too! I love the in depht irish druidic view. But then again, I use it only to spice up my OBOD course!

The NOD group rose from a video they somehow received from the last druid or something like that. I do not remember quite the details anymore, since I broke up with them a little over a year now.

Another reason I didn't like them performing open rituals is because media is a way of drawing attention to their group. Something I cannot cope with personnally. We all like attention, but to call in local television is abit ... over the edge for me . Again this is personnal thought.

All in all: take the course, learn from it, and when you feel ready to contact OBOD about your course: look back and make them entwine into your personnal course!

Blessings!

I really appreciate the advice. I joined NOD last night but I have not yet started the course. Keep the advice and comments coming.

I have written a few pieces but im starting to think it might be better suited for a free pdf book because all the stuff is so entwined :D So right now I'm procrastinating by doing gwersi 48 of the bardic course :-)

and what is wood-air bathing? Some kind of druid code for being sky clad 8-) or does it just been being out in the woods?

Procrastinating, eh? :old:
Entwined can be good for a website, as you can hyperlink.

Skyclad? Me? :duck:
I thought I read about "wood-air bathing" in the obod-material, but couldn't find it here, anymore. Have a look at this, instead.

Wood Air bathing works! It is part of what makes a forest experience so great. To me there is nothing like the smell of a forest after a rain.

Yes, I have walked misty morning woods on a number of occaisions. I also love late evenings when the sun is low in the sky and the shadows are long. Woods often become quite dark well before other surrounding areas in the late hours of evening. The forest at this time takes on a very mystical often enchanting feel.

I've been a member for 3 years.

There have been some ups and downs, but I would always recommend NOD membership (It's free) and it's courses.

You know y'all can do both?? :P

In many ways NOD is a lot more progressive than OBOD. But OBOD is established and large.

It's all about what you want.
