Families and Druidry

Hello!

I'm researching Druidry as a part of my World Religions class in college. We were asked a question today regarding what our chosen religion believes in regards to how they should treat their biological family. I know Druidry places great importance on their ancestors, but I wondered if anyone could help me understand how a druid should interact with their living families.

But every druid is different, and there are no central teachings, like these family values found in the Christian Bible:

For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law;

As has been said, with love, kindness and respect. My wife and I are both Pagan and members of this order, however I don't think that our beliefs are actually that much of an issue with the remainder of our families. We are both open and honest about our spiritual path but as far as interacting with our families is concerned we are not really much different to any other grandparents/parents/brother or sister etc.
We certainly do not preach or force our views on anyone and within the family circle at large the subject of our beliefs rarely comes up in conversation at all.

Other then that, I keep myself closed about saying anything about Druidry. Since I am the only one who practices as a spirituality.

My belief is that you should have respect for your elders and be prepared to share wisdom and knowledge with the next.
Work and live with co-operation, understanding and tolerance.


The challenge for the modern system is that it isn't necessarily hereditary, so a Druid's parents may be of another religion or belief and so may hold views which contradict your own. Hence the need for tolerance and understanding.

As a Christian Druid, I go by the teachings on the Bible concerning my family. " Honor Thy Mother & Father " " Do not steal " Do not Lie " etc. The 10 commandments has the basic rules and they apply to family too.

As others have said with love, respect and kindness - I am the only follower of the druid path, my wife is atheist (as is her side of the family) our son goes to a christian school, albeit a very multiracial one. Additionally I believe that children should find their own path to spiritual belief - although I provide hints - I was brought up this way I think it's a Methodist meme from my mother unfortunately for my mother I chose a non-christian way .

I encourage a love of nature and the precepts of the Gewessi (aka heathen-druidic) path that I follow:
Bravery, Creativity, Discipline, Honour, Honesty, Hospitality, Justice, Loyalty, Kindness.

My siblings whilst relatively agnostic (the usual Church of England where they visit church for Christenings, Weddings, Funerals and Midnight Mass after the pub at Christmas) are receptive to pagan and druidic thought.
