Urgent healing/postive energy request........

Hi Everyone,

I wasn't too sure where to post this but here felt right as animals are involved - apologies if its in the wrong place moderators and please feel free to move it

We have a friend who has a small holding with lots of lovely animals and birds. Last year was not an easy year for her and then last November, on doing her usual daily early morning rounds she found that one of her young alpaca's had died in the night. To cut a long story short, the cause of death after tests was confirmed as TB. Our friend has had to wait for 2 months to find out just how many of her alpaca herd may be infected with TB and within the next few days she will find this information out for certain at long last. Some one is going to X-ray 10 of her herd tomorrow (Sunday) to see if there are any signs of the disease in their lungs and then on Monday the DEFRA vets will be testing all of her herd returning on Thursday to check for positive and negative results. All the alpacas that return a positve test result will be killed without further ado and all the alpacas with negative test results then have to be blood tested to rule out false negatives. As I am sure you will appreciate, our friend is beside herself with worry, she has built her herd of alpacas up over several years. They all have names and some she has had to hand rear - they are all great characters. The other very sad thing is that all the females are currently carrying this years babies. We are all hoping that things will not be as bad as feared but if you do have any healing/postive energy to spare please do think of Senara and her alpaca's during the days ahead and possibly her 2 wallabies who I gather can also catch TB. Fortunately all her other animals - shire horses, sheep, etc. should be OK.

We sincerely hope that most, if not all, of the herd will return negative test results come Thursday and that we will be able to breathe a sigh of relief rather than us having to Bless those that have to depart to the Summerlands and trying to support our friend as best we can at this time.

PS Please don't be offended by this comment but at this time, I don't really want a debate started on the pro's and con's of TB which can be a very emotive topic.

10 of the alpaca's, the one's considered to be most likely to test postive for TB, were X-rayed yesterday and 2 showed definite signs of TB in their lungs. These were the mother of Cherry, the young alpaca who died and one of the males. My friend was half expecting the female to show signs but not the male. Anyway, all 22 alpaca's have injections today and then we have to wait to see if any show positive re-actions when the DEFRA vets check them again on Thursday. We are all trying to keep positve at this time and hope that as few as possible test positive.....will know by Friday I guess.

Following the first round of tests we are a little in limbo just now whilst waiting for the next round of tests.
The relatively 'good news' is that none of the alpacas tested positive on the first round of test, including the 2 who showed possible signs on the X-rays. The problem with these initial tests though is that they are apparently only 17% accurate which isn't such good news. We now move on to the next stage which involves 2 lots of blood tests being taken next Wednesday 2nd February with results due on Friday (4th). The thing with these blood tests is that again, they are not that reliable but any alpacas who test positive will be killed without further tests and then tests following death could show the test result was incorrect. All very stressful for both the animals and everyone involved, and we continue to try and keep those positive thoughts going.

Blood test results were finally released late on Wednesday afternoon with 9 alpacas testing positive (13 if you include the 4 babies yet to be born) between the two tests Given none of the alpacas tested positive on the initial skin tests a few weeks back and just how unreliable these blood tests are (one of which is very, very new and unproven) my friend has decided to put up a fight for her animals. There is every chance that these animals could be killed by the DEFRA vets and then after death be found to be perfectly OK
Will post update in due course and please do keep sending positive energy to all the alpacas and Senara who needs all the help and support she can get just now,

This morning 2 alpacas who had returned possible, positive TB tests were killed by the ministry vets in the hope that their deaths might help to save the others. Later today or tomorrow we should know if these 2 actually had any signs TB which will either support the test results or cast further doubts on them.

My friend rang late this morning to say that no evidence of TB was found in either Aero or Snowy - they were two healthy alpacas As a result of this my friend is now determined to fight all she can to save the other alpacas and to raise awareness generally of what is happening.

Latest news this morning is that the 'ministry' have finally agreed to cover the costs of doing culture studies on both the alpacas that were killed (each culture test costs around £200). This means another wait of 6-8 weeks but if the cultures also prove nothing it will help the remaining alpacas greatly. So yet again we now sit, wait and hope......
