Anglesey- Any recommendations?

Postby skydove » 26 Jan 2011, 14:27

We are taking a week off in the middle of March and planning to stay on Anglesey. Never having visited before has anyone any recommendations from a druidic/ celtic studies/ natural history point of view of places of interest to visit?

Anglesey is beautiful and stuffed with ancient stones.
Bryn Celli Ddu, is a must I would say. http://www.megalithic.co.uk/article.php?sid=24
We went to Branwens grave which is on a spectacular headland but is blocked with concrete and unsightly railings.
There is loads more info on megalithic .co.uk
We also went to LLynon MIll and Iron Age settlement ( I just love roundhouses)
Amlwch has a lovely little harbour and info about the copper industry.
The scenery is wonderful in general but take good waterproofs!
I'm now wondering how soon I can go there again,
Have a great time!

Hi there,

I have spent the last few years visiting sites all over Anglesey. I have several recommendations for you based on my sacred site experiences there:-

Bryn Celli Ddu - as previously mentioned - is stunning. Definitely go inside and touch the petrified tree trunk, and then stand on top of it too. Look for the planet Venus while you're there - this site is particularly strong in March and its energies are aligned with Venus.

The Bryngwyn Stones - although there are only two remaining they are huge and impressive still. Mad to think that they once stood in a double circle of two inter-linked stone circles.

The Stepping Stones across the River Braint are fun to cross and back, just for the hell of it.

Lligwy Chamber near Moelfre - its wonderful. Go inside and lie down on the long flat shelf. Have someone walk around outside. It's very strange!

Bodowyr dolmen - perched on a gentle hillside with wonderful views of Snowdon. Lovely to be inside it too. A gentle feeling in there.

There are many more. If you go to my blog page about Wales you will see many sites listed with a link to maps so that you can find them. I also recommend doing a search of my blog for sites you're interested in to find out more about them. The page "Maps 2 - Wales" under the Sacred Sites tab also has more information about some special sites on Anglesey.

The Hedge Druid blog: http://www.hedgedruid.com

The Sacred Sites page: http://www.hedgedruid.com/sacred-sites-2/

The Wales page for a list of Anglesey sites: http://www.hedgedruid.com/sacred-sites-2/sacred-sites-of-wales/

You will enjoy it, most definitely. :-)
Positive energies.

Hi Skydove!

Do you know Kris Hughes? He's on this board as Kris. He comes from Anglesey and runs the Anglesey Order of Druids. He'd be my first port of call for info and directions. I'll pm you with his email as I don't think he checks in here very often.

You're bound to have a magical time. I've only ever been to Anglesey on my way to the ferry at Holyhead, but I plan to get up there sometime soon too and actually stop and visit the place. We looked into buying a really ancient and remote chapel up there about 3 years ago but it didn't work out...
