For Her
I climb out of the pool
And on the sunny rock,
The light plays golden Etch A Sketch
across my upturned face.
There is a place for silence here,
Motion is a small coming and going,
And all that can be heard is the drip of the sunlight,
The tumbling of water beads as they slide off my hands and hair,
The simple, almost imperceptible sigh of the earth as she exhales,
The stretching of a budding flower.
Something also said in the many voices that speak about memories
Just below the drone of quiet stillness.
My own rhythm under bones might be the loudest sound.
This is the music of my love.
She says to wait, to hush, to listen,
To receive and to smile
She folds me in her arms
Wider than sky
Purple eyes and silver hair.
