Miracle Herbs?

Postby grayjk » 26 Feb 2011, 10:31

Greetings brothers and sisters, I was thinking about what kinds of potted plants I was going to buy (headed for college this fall, so I want some greenery that I can move into an apartment with), and I thought of Aloe Vera. I know that aloe can be cut, and the juice can be used to heal everything from cuts to burns. I was wondering what other plants, if any have similar purposes? I mean something I could grow (ideally in small quarters) that would have some good general-purpose healing abilities, similar to Aloe Vera's first-aid abilities. Any suggestions, or general suggestions on how to make sure to keep potted plants healthy, especially herbs and the like? Thanks in advance.

squill is one of my favourites - also called pregnant onion (Ornithogalum longibracteatum). it 'heals sick magic' - or so i'm told, and sure, it's got loads of character and a very dramatic appearance. it tolerates poorish light, drought and starvation, but looks brilliant if it's properly cared for, and responds visibly to being talked to now and then. it has medicinal uses but these are for the specialist. it would look 'right' with aloe vera, imo. :)

Its not a growing plant once its gathered but Chaga from the white birch is reported to have many healing powers and it stores well once dried and can be used in teas or soaked in liquids
